Couples absolutely rave about this spot (they’ve rated the location 9.9, which is pretty much unheard of), and I get why. You can walk to the Rhine in minutes, pop into traditional brauhäuser for a Kölsch, or just wander through medieval streets that actually feel medieval. The main shopping areas are close enough to reach easily, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with constant tourist crowds right outside your door.

I’ll be honest — this isn’t about fancy amenities or marble bathrooms. What Stern am Rathaus does really well is comfort, especially when it comes to sleep. The beds here have earned quite a reputation among guests, and after spending a few nights, I can see why people keep mentioning them in reviews.   The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. The room was very clean and well appointed. We were very thankful for the AC as there was a heat wave while we were there. The hotel's location is perfect and even though it is super central, the room was quiet so we got great sleep. Walking distance from the train station and super convenient to reach all parts of Cologne.
  
  What could be improved: The layout of the room was a little awkward – though – extremely efficient and well appointed. My only criticism was that due to the layout, I could not, with our luggage, find a good place to do stretches. This is obviously a tiny inconvenience for what was, all in all, an excellent room and stay.

  The location is excellent, only a short walking distance to the Dom, the Rhine River, and transportation. All staff members were very friendly, professional and courteous. The breakfast was outstanding and exceeded our expectations. We had a rental car and were able to park it in a nearby garage at a reasonable price.
  
  What could be improved: The shower had only a half door so water would spill out, but it didn’t bother us too much. I would rank the property 10 out of 10 and would love to stay again!
