The narrow streets around here are filled with traditional brewhouses and little shops that locals actually use, not just tourist traps. Couples seem to get this location thing figured out pretty quickly — there’s something romantic about wandering these old streets together, especially in the evening when the crowds thin out.

The rooms at Hotel Sion are what you’d expect from a well-run three-star place — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged without any unnecessary frills. You’re not getting marble bathrooms or designer furniture, but everything works properly and the beds are genuinely comfortable. The windows open onto either the quiet street or the inner courtyard, which I actually prefer since you get that authentic old-town atmosphere without the noise. Some rooms are a bit snug (this is a historic building, after all), but there’s something cozy about it that feels right for Cologne’s old quarter.

Breakfast Experience

The buffet breakfast here does exactly what it should — gets you ready for a day of exploring without breaking the bank or taking up half your morning. You’ll find the usual German breakfast spread with good bread, local cheeses, and proper coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine. The breakfast room has a nice neighborhood feel to it, and you often end up chatting with other travelers about what to see that day.   I had booked 2 rooms and my travelling companion could not come. There was no refund despite plenty of notice (bad). However the hotel did book one night for the second room and in a display of honesty and integrity they will refund me that night.
