Hotel Lorien Overview
You know what? Hotel Lorien surprised me. I’ll be honest – when you first pull up to Bergisch Gladbacher Strasse, it doesn’t exactly scream “vacation vibes.” It’s this busy thoroughfare in Holweide, and you’re thinking, okay, this is going to be one of those highway stopover places. But actually, once you’re inside, the whole vibe shifts. The lobby has this understated warmth to it, nothing fancy but genuinely welcoming in that German way where efficiency meets comfort.
The location thing is interesting – I mean, you’re not going to stumble out the front door into Cologne’s old town or anything, but here’s what most people don’t realize: you’re perfectly positioned for the real Cologne experience. The S-Bahn connection from nearby gets you into the city center in about 20 minutes, and honestly, after spending your days dodging tourist crowds around the Dom, coming back to this quieter neighborhood feels like a relief. Plus, there’s actual parking here (trust me, this matters more than you think in Cologne), and the staff seemed genuinely happy to help with directions rather than just pointing vaguely toward the nearest U-Bahn stop.
What I really appreciated was how the place felt lived-in without being worn down. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, functional, with those crisp white linens that German hotels do so well. The shower pressure was actually decent, which… look, I’ve stayed in fancier places where you’re basically misting yourself clean. The neighborhood gets properly quiet at night too, which surprised me given how busy that main street is during the day. I could hear some tram noise if I really listened for it, but nothing that kept me awake. Breakfast was that reliable German spread – good bread, local cold cuts, decent coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. The dining room gets this nice morning light that makes everything feel more cheerful than you’d expect. It’s the kind of place where you start planning your day over a second cup of coffee instead of rushing out the door. For what you’re paying, especially compared to those sterile business hotels closer to the Messe, Hotel Lorien delivers exactly what it promises – no more, no less, but done properly.
Exploring Cologne offers visitors an unforgettable journey through Germany’s cultural heart, from its magnificent Gothic cathedral to its vibrant arts scene and traditional beer culture.

Reviews of Hotel Lorien
Very Good – Caroline from Germany – June 28, 2025 (8/10)
Room was spacious and had everything you need. Bed was comfortable and everything was clean
Location is ok, depending where you want to go. Tram station is 4 min walking
What could be improved: it was super hot that day so I had to leave the window open and then it was really loud due to the main street infront of the houseVery Good – Tomaz from Slovenia – June 27, 2025 (8/10)
Great location for fair trade exhibitors as you have a direct tram connection near. And balcony. Great value for money. Our place of stay for a trade fair for more years now.
What could be improved: Can be a bit noisy at night, as it is close to the main street.Very Good – Andrzej from Poland – May 26, 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: All okFraud with registration, but comfortable room – Olesia from Netherlands – April 17, 2025 (8/10)
Comfortable bed, good location
What could be improved: I had booked two separate days at this hotel, I made the booking with the same bank card, one booking was confirmed, and the other was complete nonsense, because the hotel tried to debit money from my account twice before I arrived, although it was agreed that payment would be made upon arrival at the hotel, but one amount was an absurd 57117 euros, although the room rental price is 57.17 euros, there was no reaction to my complaint, and one of my bookings was cancelled due to this nonsense, when I arrived at the hotel and showed my bank account from which the hotel illegally tried to debit such a large amount from my account, the staff did not react in any way and did not apologizeVery Good – Olena from Ukraine – December 1, 2024 (8/10)
It was clean, comfortable, the bed was good, clean, lots of towels and it was nice that there was a kettle and a choice of tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Also you have cable channels. The reception desk is also very good. Spacious bathroom, with an excellent adequate shower and warm water.
What could be improved: I didn't like paying in cash, it's good that my daughter had cash, but in general, of course, it's convenient to have a choice regarding payment: cashless or cashVery Good – Laura from Germany – October 14, 2024 (8/10)
The room was clean, the breakfast was good 🙂
Pleasant – Michael from Denmark – August 26, 2024 (6/10)

The hotel is in an excellent location, with easy parking and convenient transportation to the city center. The young lady at the front desk was very welcoming and patient, meticulous and professional when checking us in. We are very satisfied!
