Hotel Kunibert der Fiese – Superior Overview

You know what struck me first about Hotel Kunibert der Fiese? The name – I mean, who calls their hotel “Kunibert the Nasty” and somehow makes it work? But honestly, once you’re standing on Am Bollwerk looking at this place, it all makes sense. The building has this quirky medieval vibe that fits perfectly with Cologne’s old town character, and you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Dom (though you probably already knew that if you’re staying in Altstadt-Nord). What you might not realize is how quiet this little stretch gets at night, especially compared to the chaos around Heumarkt just a few blocks south.

The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect from a solid 3-star in Germany – clean, functional, nothing fancy but definitely comfortable enough. I actually appreciated that they didn’t try to over-modernize everything; there’s something refreshing about a place that knows what it is. The breakfast room overlooks the street, and if you’re an early riser like me, you’ll catch the locals heading to work while tourists are still figuring out their day. Parking can be a bit of a headache around here – honestly, most people just use the Park+Ride system or deal with the underground garage nearby, but fair warning that it’s not cheap. The 7.2 rating feels about right; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on the basics without any major disappointments.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this spot though – the location is genuinely perfect for exploring Cologne on foot. You’re close enough to hear the Dom’s bells (which is either charming or annoying depending on your sleep schedule), but far enough from Schildergasse that you won’t be dealing with shopping crowds right outside your door. The Rhine is literally right there, and I found myself walking along the water most evenings just because it was so easy. Plus, you’ve got some really solid local spots nearby – there’s this little brauhaus called Peters that tourists haven’t completely discovered yet, and the U-Bahn connections from Dom/Hauptbahnhof mean you can get anywhere in the city without much fuss. Look, Hotel Kunibert isn’t trying to be the Excelsior, and that’s exactly why it works. Sometimes you just want a clean bed, a decent shower, and to be in the heart of things without paying resort prices.

Best hotels in Cologne range from charming boutique properties near the historic cathedral to elegant riverside hotels with stunning views of the Rhine and medieval old town.

Brilliant except. I was just missing a kettle with complimentary tea and coffee etc.

I thought this would've been standard.

  • This place felt safe and secure with a good vibe – William from United Kingdom – April 5, 2025 (8/10)

The service and staff were incredible and very helpful when I needed advice on where to go they suggested some very good places and marked them on a map for me. The room was really nice with all facilities provided. The restaurant and bar is really nice in an amazing location easy to get to and good to relax after a day of exploring

  • Its near to Koln HBF – Yansen from Indonesia – March 31, 2025 (8/10)

Small shower area And the door of the shower doesn't close properly, hence water from the shower will wet the whole bathroom.

  • Great location and good value – Leandro from Canada – December 11, 2024 (8/10)

    Great location

What could be improved: Key system could be updated but not a big deal.

  • We will be back and would recommend it – Susan from United Kingdom – October 18, 2024 (8/10)

Location was excellent, room very clean and bed very comfortable. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Exceptional value for money

What could be improved: We just liked it. The decor in the corridors was a bit tired but that didn’t bother us at all, the room itself was spotless

  • Very Good – Leisafail from Australia – October 4, 2024 (8/10)

Great location in old town Cologne. Close to the train station and Cathedral. Restaurants available downstairs we grabbed a takeaway pizza getting in late one night, so convenient. Room was good size, clean facilities, bed comfy. I do love the 2 single doona covers europe does, my husband never complains of me stealing the blankets.

What could be improved: No temperature control. Okay for us it was a cooler few nights. They do supply a fan and we left the window open. You can hear the resturants downstairs but they weren't to loud for us.

  • Excellent location and wonderful city – Robert from United Kingdom – July 14, 2024 (8/10)

Location, price and room size for three people

What could be improved: Staff a little rushed and moody but quickest check in out ever

  • Ok.. but just Ok. Nothing special. – Luke from United Kingdom – June 9, 2024 (6/10)

Easily located in the old town of cologne, 10 mins walk from the hbf. Beds were comfy though.

What could be improved: Very small rooms!! And noisy due to location. No onsite restaurant, separate bar and restaurant located on ground floor, so was eating outside the whole time.

  • Very Good – Alex from United States – May 22, 2024 (8/10)

    Staff was great

What could be improved: Everything was good
