You really can’t beat this spot in Altstadt-Nord — it’s right in the thick of things without being touristy-chaotic. The cathedral is maybe a 10-minute walk, and you’re surrounded by those narrow cobblestone streets that make Cologne feel properly European. What I loved is that couples seem to get this location (they rate it 9.1, which makes total sense), because you can easily wander to dinner, then stumble back through the old town. The area has that perfect mix of historic charm and actual local life happening around you.

The Room Experience

My room continued the gallery theme but didn’t go overboard with it — there were a couple of striking pieces on the walls, but they didn’t compete with actually getting some sleep. The space felt modern and clean, with good lighting for both working and relaxing. Actually, the whole art-hotel concept could’ve been gimmicky, but they pulled it off by keeping things sophisticated rather than trying too hard. You know what I appreciated? The blackout curtains actually worked, which isn’t always a given in boutique places like this.

I’m usually pretty picky about hotel breakfast, but this one had solid variety — good bread (this is Germany, after all), decent coffee, and fresh options that didn’t feel like they’d been sitting out forever. It sounds potentially pretentious, but it’s actually quite pleasant when you’re easing into your day.

  The design of the rooms. The bed is those type of water bed, when u lie down it does moves abit, like you are on waters. It's fine for me as am super tired.

  Wonderful little boutique hotel! Rooms are named, not numbered. Artfully decorated to the smallest detail. Comfortable bed, & a real fresh flower in a small vase of water in the bathroom, and not only a hair dryer (with attachments), but a flat iron too! The front desk staff were very nice. Highly recommend!

  The bathroom was glass and my husband forgot it was closed and ran right into it! I safety hazard, I think. I suggested to the front desk that they put stickers (I’m sure they can find artsy ones) on the glass at eye level. An other couple checking out agreed. Also as an older builder, the did the best they could with the lift, so it’s not aligned with each floor, you might have to go up or down a few stairs, but I’ve had that in other European hotels.

  The room exceeded my expectations! I stayed in the deep sea art room and it was fabulous, I got to sleep inside of a clam shell on a super comfy water bed and was beyond myself from giddiness and excitement!
  The neighborhood is great, away from the touristy bit full of moderately drunk man. It has several great options for breakfast and snacks during the day. My breakfast highlight was the Hommage cafe, 10 minute walk from the hotel.
  
  What could be improved: The Irish pub is right in front of the windows of that room and it was very loud and rowdy until late at night so I had to sleep with the closed windows
