The location on Max-Planck-Straße is actually brilliant if you know Cologne at all. Junkersdorf isn’t where tourists usually end up, which is exactly why it works so well. You’re far enough from the cathedral crowds to breathe, but the S-Bahn gets you into the city center in maybe 15 minutes. Plus – and this is huge if you’re driving – parking here doesn’t require selling a kidney like it does downtown. The neighborhood feels properly German, you know? Real bakeries, actual locals walking their dogs, the kind of morning quiet you just can’t get near the Hauptbahnhof.

What really sold me on this place was how they’ve nailed the extended-stay vibe without making it feel institutional. The rooms have that clean, minimalist thing going on, but with enough personality that you don’t feel like you’re living in an IKEA catalog. The kitchenettes actually work (I made coffee every morning and proper meals a few times), and there’s decent counter space – details that matter when you’re staying more than a night or two. The 8.3 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be the Four Seasons, but everything they do attempt, they execute really well. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that overly complicated key card drama some places put you through.

Honestly, the more time I spent there, the more I appreciated how they’ve thought about what people actually need. The Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, the shower pressure is solid, and – this might sound weird – but the soundproofing is surprisingly good for a building that doesn’t look particularly new. I barely heard my neighbors, which in Germany is saying something since people here aren’t exactly quiet about their morning routines. If you’re in Cologne for work or doing that slower travel thing where you want to feel less like a tourist, this spot really delivers. Just don’t expect a concierge or room service – it’s more like having a well-designed temporary apartment in a part of the city where real life happens.
