Location-wise, you’re in Altstadt-Nord, which puts you close enough to all the major stuff but far enough away that you’re not dealing with tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM. Eigelstein itself is this great little street with actual shops and cafes where locals go – I grabbed coffee at least three mornings from this tiny place two doors down where the owner remembered my order by day two. The cathedral’s an easy walk (maybe ten minutes if you’re strolling), but you’re also right near the Rhine if you want to wander along the water. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area – typical for any German city center – so if you’re driving, maybe scout it out when you arrive rather than circling around with all your luggage like I did.

Honestly, the whole experience felt more authentic than those polished chain hotels near the main station. Sure, it’s not going to have 24-hour room service or marble bathrooms, but that 8.3 rating makes perfect sense when you factor in the space, the location, and that genuine neighborhood feel. The check-in was smooth enough, though definitely coordinate your arrival time since it’s not like a hotel front desk situation. I’d absolutely stay here again – actually, I kind of wish I’d booked an extra night because rushing to pack up all that space felt wasteful.   Property is in an ideal location. Very central for everything on a 5~10 minute walk. Train station 4 minutes so ideal. The apartment was very large and clean ( spotless ) with easy out of hours access via key code. Owner very responsive on booking.com messages ( not on what’s app ). Liked having 2 toilets. Compared to other offers this is a good value well placed room.
  
  What could be improved: Noisy and I mean noisy until early hours – albeit central location you may expect this. Wouldn’t be any good for younger kids or if you were light sleeper.
  Area around the accommodation was not great but have stopped in worse neighbourhoods. I would be on your guard around the streets with some undesirables around.
  Pillows were soft squares – be better with proper pillows.
  Fridge door didn’t shut properly
  Shower didn’t drain properly ( noted on previous reviews) These small things would be easy to sort.
  There was a fan in the kitchen but bedrooms were hot with no air con. Weather was 24/25 but it would have been uncomfortable any warmer. Albeit windows open fully which helps.

  The rooms are very spacious, and the kitchen has everything you need. Everywhere in the house was clean. There is a washing machine and dryer. It’s also very close to the train station and a supermarket.
  
  What could be improved: There was no air conditioning, so it was difficult to sleep during hot weather. The bedrooms face the main street, and it was noisy until late at night. There is a wifi but the signal is not strong in all rooms. The bathroom drain was slow. The pillows were very large and quite flat, more like cushions than actual pillows, which made sleeping a bit uncomfortable.

  The location is perfect — just a short walk to the Cologne Cathedral. The apartment is spacious, clean, and check-in was easy.
