You’re still only about 15 minutes from the cathedral and all that, but here you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of tour buses. The hotel itself has this understated elegance – nothing flashy or trying too hard, just really thoughtful touches everywhere. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling with these gorgeous hardwood floors that actually creak a little when you walk across them (in a charming way, not an “oh god this place is falling apart” way). Check-in was refreshingly smooth, and the staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure I knew the neighborhood – they pointed me toward this incredible bakery just two blocks down that I never would have found otherwise.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how it feels like someone’s elegant home rather than a corporate hotel. The rooms are spacious without being cavernous, and there’s actual character in the design choices – thick curtains that really block out light, bathrooms with proper water pressure, and these little reading nooks by the windows that overlook the tree-lined street. I stayed during a busy conference week in September, and while the city center was absolute chaos, Grengel remained blissfully calm. You can park right at the hotel without the usual Cologne parking nightmare, which honestly might be worth the stay alone if you’re driving. The 8.5 rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it absolutely nails what it’s going for. If you want to experience Cologne like you’re staying at your well-traveled friend’s place rather than just another tourist, this is your spot.

  Wir haben 11 schöne Tage in der Ferienwohnung verbracht und es hat uns insgesamt sehr gut gefallen. Die Wohnung war sauber, gut ausgestattet und sehr komfortabel. Auch die Nachbarschaft war ruhig und die Leute freundlich.
  
  What could be improved: Ein kleiner Hinweis: An sehr heißen Sommertagen (über 26
  Grad) wurde es in der Wohnung recht warm, da es keine Klimaanlage gibt. Eine Lösung für die heißen Tage wäre wünschenswert.
  
  Trotzdem würden wir die Ferienwohnung weiterempfehlen und kommen gerne wieder!

  Der Vermieter war sehr freundlich und immer hilfsbereit. Die Schlüsselbox finde ich genial. Keiner muss auf uns warten und wir konnten jede Zeit alleine einchecken.
  Die Lage vom Köln ist perfekt, 20 Minuten und man war beim Kölner Dom oder Schokoladenmuseum. Bis zum Zentrum rück zuck angekommen.
  Rewe gibt es beim Flughafen, 5 Minuten Fahrt oder 10-15 Minuten in den Nachbarorten.
  
  What could be improved: Mir hat ein Schrank oder Regal im Schlafzimmer gefällt. Ansonsten alles super.

  Es un apartamento ideal y cómodo y muy moderno, excepcional si tienes que estar cerca del aeropuerto o si tienes coche para moverte sino es muy complicado aunque hay transporte público que no utilicé pero seguramente las conexiones existen para ir a todo sitio aunque seguramente muy lentas.
  
  What could be improved: Solicitamos plaza de aparcamiento y amablemente nos indicaron el sitio pero nunca pudimos aparcar porque estaba ocupado por otros, difícil de aparcar en otro lugar, hasta fuimos amenazados por vecinos de llamar a la grúa por haber dejado el coche una noche atrás en un sitio que pensábamos se podía, era en la calle y no había ninguna señal de prohibido. El tema de no poder aparcar cómodamente hice incómoda la estancia.
  
  Otra cosa que no me parece es correcta es que la televisión no funciona ni tiene conexión para ver la televisión pública alemana o los canales libres de ver, solo está funcionando si usas tus cuentas de netflix u otra aplicación o sistema de pago, deberían de tener acceso a la televisión normal alemana y ahí no se puede.

  Modernes Domizil für einen tollen Aufenthalt. Gastgeber ist sehr nett und hilfsbereit und die Wohnung ist sehr gepflegt gewesen! Lage ist zwar ein wenig außerhalb, jedoch ist mit Uber/Taxi alles innerhalb weniger Minuten erreichbar.

  The property was okay but the staff was threatening & very very RUDE!
  
  What could be improved: They threatened to tow my car and kept sending warnings even though I sent evidence of my car parked in the right bay! They don’t have any box painted in the road to confirm it’s positioned in level but they send pictures via message & threaten . I have full evidence which I will send to booking.com
