Wasserturm Hotel Cologne, Curio Collection by Hilton Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to the Wasserturm Hotel Cologne, Curio Collection by Hilton honestly feels like discovering a secret — you’re looking at what used to be Europe’s tallest water tower, now transformed into this striking four-star hotel. The brick cylinder rises up from Kaygasse like something out of a fairy tale, and I mean that in the best way possible. You know what really gets me? The way they’ve kept that industrial heritage while making it feel completely welcoming. It’s sort of magical, actually.
Location & Neighborhood
The Altstadt-Süd location is absolutely perfect — I can see why couples rate it so highly at 8.7. You’re literally steps from the Rhine promenade, and the cathedral is just a pleasant walk away through Cologne’s charming old streets. What I love about this spot is that you get the historic atmosphere without the tourist chaos that hits some other parts of the city. The neighborhood has this authentic German feel with local cafes and shops, plus you can easily walk to the main shopping areas when you want more action.
The Room Experience
The room design here is something else — they’ve worked with the tower’s unique circular structure, so no two rooms feel exactly the same. The windows are these gorgeous arched openings that frame the city views beautifully, and honestly, the way they’ve balanced modern comfort with the building’s historic character is impressive. The beds are seriously comfortable (Hilton knows what they’re doing there), and the bathrooms feel spacious despite the tower’s constraints. You’ll find thoughtful touches throughout that remind you you’re staying somewhere truly special.
Dining & Amenities
Breakfast here covers all the bases — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free options alongside a solid buffet spread. The restaurant space works with the tower’s architecture in this really clever way, creating intimate dining areas that don’t feel cramped. What’s practical is that parking is available right at the hotel, which honestly saves you a headache in Cologne’s busy center. The staff seems genuinely proud of the property, and it shows in how they take care of the details that matter to travelers.
Why Guests Love It
This place hits that sweet spot between unique character and reliable comfort that’s actually harder to find than you’d think. The 8.5 rating makes sense when you experience how they’ve turned this historic water tower into something that feels both special and practical. You’re staying in a piece of Cologne’s history, but with all the modern amenities you actually want. It’s the kind of hotel that gives you great stories to tell when you get home, while making sure you sleep well and start each day properly fed and ready to explore. The circular tower design creates an unforgettable backdrop for your stay.

Breakfast is amazing. Location is unfortunate, but I believe the tower was built before the surrounding area. The bar on the 11th floor was a little expensive, but the atmosphere was lovely and the staff were lovely.
What could be improved: Dusty shelves in the cupboards in the bedroom.Exceptional – Daniel from United Kingdom – July 24, 2025 (10/10)
Michael at the Reception absolutely made our day.
Despite our special requests he was so accomodating, patient and overall the best represenation of the hotel! We asked for a complimentary late checkout just to lay in the beds longer. Worth it! – Chelsea from United States – July 21, 2025 (10/10)

Fabulous building. Great location. Loved the rooftop bar. The public pool nearby was fun. Very secure underground bike parking in their garage. Incredibly quiet, dark, comfortable room. Good shower.
What could be improved: The lighting was very dim in the room.Exceptional – Maria from Netherlands – June 1, 2025 (10/10)

Great hotel and service.
What could be improved: The room temperature was too warm for my liking and the air con or open window didn’t make much difference. It would be nice to have effective air con or a desktop fan.Fab hotel in great location – Amy from United Kingdom – May 10, 2025 (10/10)
