Walking into TheClouth feels like discovering one of those well-kept secrets that locals don’t really want to share. This three-star hotel sits on Niehler Straße in the Nippes district, and honestly, the industrial-chic vibe hits you right away — the building’s got this converted warehouse feel that somehow manages to be both edgy and welcoming. You know what I mean? It’s not trying too hard to impress, but there’s definitely character here that you won’t find in your typical chain hotel.

Here’s the thing about staying in Nippes — most tourists completely overlook this neighborhood, which is actually perfect for travelers who want to experience Cologne like someone who actually lives here. You’re close enough to the city center (about 15 minutes by tram) but far enough away that you’re not dealing with crowds of tourists every time you step outside. The area has this authentic, lived-in feel with local cafes and shops that haven’t been sanitized for visitors. Couples seem to really get this — they’ve rated the location 8.4, and I can see why.

Room Experience

The room I stayed in had that minimalist, almost Scandinavian approach to design — clean lines, neutral colors, and just enough personality to keep things interesting. Nothing fancy, but everything worked exactly as it should. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given at this price point), and there’s decent storage space if you’re staying more than a night or two. What I appreciated most was how quiet it was — you’d think being on a main street would mean noise, but the windows do their job well.

Morning Fuel

Breakfast here is one of those continental buffet setups, and while it’s not going to blow your mind, it definitely gets the job done. Fresh bread, decent coffee, and enough variety to fuel whatever you’ve got planned for the day. I mean, it’s Germany — the bread alone makes it worth getting up for. The breakfast area has good natural light, and there’s usually a nice mix of business travelers and tourists, so the atmosphere feels pretty relaxed.

What really works about TheClouth is that it knows exactly what it is — a solid, no-nonsense place to stay that doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. The parking situation is actually handled well (not something you can say about most hotels in German cities), and the staff seems to genuinely care about making sure you have what you need.   Great location, easy to get to and rooms were lovely and a good size. Very clean and quiet and the staff were very helpful when needed.
  
  What could be improved: I didn’t dislike anything about the property but would have been great to have more hanging space for clothes and a full length mirror in the room. Also lighting in the room is very dark.

  Modern hotel with nice public staying area and well sized rooms with separate toilet and seperate good sized bathroom. Quiet location nearby a parc and public transport. Convenient to travel within 20 min to the centre of Cologne.
  
  What could be improved: Upon arrival we had some difficulties to find the entrance to the hotel from the garage.
  
  We also didn't have yet received the code to open the door of the building but people had to go to the toilet. Then it's very difficult to enter the hotel, because there is no reception, everything is digital.

  The room was clean, comfortable, modern and warm.
  Tv and hairdryer included.
  Spotless crisp white bedding and towels.
  Everything we needed and wanted for a room for a short stay but as there is no wardrobe for hanging clothes for longer periods you may struggle..
  Perhaps hard to describe it as a hotel. More like lovely rooms in a conference centre. Nice industrial feel.

  What could be improved: The checkin procedure.
  It can only be done on A smartphone . Check in online to access a page of electronic keys. Which you swipe to open the front door of the building and make your way up to the third floor.
  There you will need to scan a QR code and it opens a page to where you add your name and booking number not the confirmation number as i kept doing.. Only then do you get your room number. And another key added to your phone. Swipe to open the third floor door and go to the room.
  Just to much hassle and with 6% battery life I had to make a phone call to get assistance .
  
  The location was OK ,clean and safe and restaurants were available in the area. but the distance from the centre was just to far to walk (45 minutes). We took a Bolt car there and back 9-15 euros. I believe a tram stop is about a 10 minutes walk from the complex.
  
  Lack of clothing storage space may be an issue as no wardrobe only 2 coat hangers.

  Location was in a nice area, very safe..
  
  What could be improved: The issues with the key cards was a continuous headache, although it got sorted in the end. Important to not ethe hotel changed management the week before our stay, so teething problems are natural. The concierge was a great guy.
