the Deutz, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel Overview
You know what struck me first about the Deutz? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet side street in Mülheim – Adam-Stegerwald-Straße – which honestly took me a minute to find, but once you’re there, you realize that’s exactly what makes it special. While everyone else is dealing with the tourist chaos across the river in Altstadt, you’re in this genuinely local neighborhood where people are just going about their normal Cologne lives.
The hotel itself has this interesting industrial-chic thing going on that actually works – I mean, you’re literally in the shadow of where old factories used to be, so the whole Tribute Portfolio aesthetic doesn’t feel forced like it sometimes does. The lobby smells like that perfect combination of coffee and clean linen, and the staff… well, they’re refreshingly straightforward in that German way. No fake smiles, but they genuinely know their stuff about getting around the city. The rooms are solid – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but the beds are properly comfortable and the bathrooms have decent water pressure (you’d be surprised how often that’s an issue in European hotels). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re only about a ten-minute walk from the Deutzer Brücke.
Here’s the thing though – and this is where staying in Mülheim actually becomes brilliant – you’re right by the KölnTriangle, so if you want those Instagram shots of the cathedral across the Rhine, you just walk five minutes instead of fighting crowds. Plus, there’s this little Turkish bakery around the corner that does these incredible börek things for breakfast if you want to skip the hotel’s spread. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Cologne, but everything works the way it should. Parking is straightforward if you’re driving – there’s a garage situation that doesn’t require a PhD in spatial geometry to navigate. The whole area gets pretty lively during Karneval season (fair warning), but most of the year it’s got this nice residential calm that lets you actually sleep. I’d definitely stay here again, especially since you can hop on the U-Bahn at Keupstraße and be anywhere in the city center in fifteen minutes.
Cologne’s apartments offer spacious accommodations with modern amenities, perfect for families wanting to experience daily life in this historically significant German city.

Lovely hotel! Stayed in the building separate from the main building, perfect for me, as I don't like walking in and out of hotel lobbies, to get to my room.
Jellies and water in reception sold it for me 🙂
Perfect stay, thank you.
What could be improved: No where to sit outside and relax, at the front of the hotel, while waiting.A pleasant stay – Marie from United Kingdom – May 18, 2025 (7/10)
Location was good for our trip
Parking was good (charged fee)
What could be improved: We upgraded to an executive room but wish we hadn’t. Didn’t feel much benefit or luxury as a result of the extra spend

This was our second stay at the Deutz and definitely won’t be the last. We love the location, the staff is super friendly and the beds are amazing.
What could be improved: When we went for dinner at the restaurant there was only one option: pizza. We hoped for pasta.. but there wasn’t a menu to choose from. But the pizza’s were super delicious!! So we we’re happy in the end.lovely stay – Leanne from Netherlands – January 18, 2025 (8/10)
nice tv on which we could watch netflix, nice room and lovely staff!!
What could be improved: elevators were shaky and scaryNice room, nice staff, pity the restaurant opening is haphazard – Sarah from United Kingdom – January 8, 2025 (7/10)
Staff were really kind and helpful, but seemed a bit overwhelmed. Breakfast was tasty – very nice tea selection, good cereal selection, decent range of hot food, pastries, etc., but is expensive. Room was comfortable and peaceful. Was too hot initially but fine once I opened the window, and as it's in a fairly quiet residential area, you don't get a noise issue doing that. Wifi very good. Toiletries nice. Bed comfortable.
What could be improved: Both nights I wanted to eat at the hotel, the kitchen/restaurant was closed with no announcement/warning at all. As both times I was quite tired and didn't want to travel back into town, this left few options – there are not really any/many other restaurants in easy walking distance. So I had to get UberEats delivered, which wasn't really what I had planned! Also, the TV screen in the room kept randomly switching on in the middle of the night so at 3am I'd suddenly be woken by the room being flooded by blue light, and I couldn't work out what caused this or how to prevent it.Very Good! – Christafdj from Greece – December 30, 2024 (9/10)
Very Good Breakfast, Good location, Very Comfortable!
What could be improved: The Cleaning was OK, but you can do it better!
