I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Studio El Guess on Bergisch Gladbacher Straße – honestly, the name had me a bit confused, and the location in Dellbrück isn’t exactly where most tourists end up. But here’s the thing about this little 3-star spot: it’s actually pretty brilliant if you know what you’re getting into. The building itself is nothing fancy, sort of tucked between residential blocks on this busy street that connects to the city center, but once you’re inside, there’s this unexpectedly cozy vibe that grows on you. The studio-style rooms are clean and thoughtfully laid out – I mean, they’ve really maximized the space without making it feel cramped. What I loved was how quiet it gets at night, despite being on a main road. The windows are solid, and you’re far enough from Cologne’s party districts that you’ll actually sleep well.

The staff here genuinely seem to care, which you don’t always get at this price point. Check-in was smooth, and they knew the area well enough to give me actual useful directions instead of just pointing vaguely toward the city center. Speaking of location – look, you’re not walking to the cathedral from here, but the public transport connections are honestly better than a lot of pricier hotels I’ve stayed at in Cologne. The Dellbrück S-Bahn station is maybe a 10-minute walk, and from there you’re looking at 15-20 minutes to get into the old town. Plus, there’s decent parking if you’re driving, which is worth its weight in gold in this city. The neighborhood itself is pretty authentic – you’ve got a proper German bakery just down the street, a few Turkish markets, and this little Italian place that locals clearly love (always a good sign). It’s not touristy at all, which I actually found refreshing after spending days dodging crowds around the Dom.

What really sealed it for me was the value – an 8.6 rating makes perfect sense when you consider what you’re paying versus what you get. The breakfast isn’t elaborate, but it’s fresh and there’s enough variety to keep you happy. The rooms have this modern-but-not-sterile feel, with decent lighting for getting work done if you need to, and the shower pressure is actually impressive. Are there fancier places in Cologne? Obviously. But if you want somewhere clean, comfortable, and genuinely well-run without the tourist markup, Studio El Guess delivers. Just don’t expect a concierge or room service – this is more about solid fundamentals done right.

  Erg schoon, goed onderhouden studio. Er lagen zelfs wat broodjes en een zakje popcorn voor ons klaar. Heel attent.

  Der Aufenthalt im Studio El Guess war sehr angenehm. Besonders in Sachen Sauberkeit und Einrichtung besticht das Studio durch viel Liebe zum Detail. Der kontaktlose Check-in und -out war sehr angenehm und unproblematisch.

  Für uns war die Lage in Dellbrück optimal.
  Wir konnten in 10 min bei unseren Freunden sein.
  Das Studio lag nahe der Hauptstraße mit vielen Geschäften und Gastronomie. Eine Bäckerei mit tollem Frühstück war fussläufig direkt in 5 min zu erreichen.

  El Studio Guess es muy bonito, limpio y muy cerca de la estación de tren! En la zona hay muchos cafés para desayunar y tiendas! buen lugar para dar un paseo! Los propietarios fueron muy amables en todo momento!
