Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Cologne, and STAYERY Ehrenfeld honestly caught me off guard in the best way. First thing you notice pulling up to Vogelsanger Straße is that you’re not in some touristy bubble – this is proper Ehrenfeld, where actual Cologne residents hang out. The building itself has this understated modern thing going on, nothing flashy, but you can tell someone put thought into it. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and the staff actually seemed like they wanted to be there, which… you know how rare that’s becoming these days.

What really sold me on this place, though, is how it gets Ehrenfeld right. You’re a five-minute walk from Venloer Straße with all its quirky shops and cafés that haven’t been Instagram-ized to death yet. I mean, you can grab proper Turkish breakfast at one of the local spots, then wander over to the vintage stores without feeling like you’re following some prescribed tourist route. The rooms themselves – well, they’re what you’d expect from a solid 4-star, but with little touches that show someone was paying attention. Good blackout curtains (seriously underrated), decent shower pressure, and the beds are actually comfortable, not just firm for the sake of being firm. Parking can be a bit of a dance around here, but honestly, you don’t really need a car in this neighborhood anyway.

The thing about staying in Ehrenfeld versus the Altstadt is that you get to see how Cologne actually works. Sure, you’ll need to hop on the tram to reach the cathedral and all that – but the connection is easy, and you’re trading tourist crowds for tree-lined streets and the kind of bars where people go to actually talk to each other. STAYERY seems to get this balance; they’re professional without being stuffy, and the whole vibe feels more like staying at a well-run boutique spot than some corporate chain. The 8.7 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, just doing the fundamentals really well in a neighborhood that’s genuinely worth exploring. If you want to experience Cologne beyond the obvious hits and don’t mind being a short tram ride from the main tourist stuff, this is exactly the kind of place you book without second-guessing yourself.

  Our business trip with colleagues was wonderful! The rooms are new, very neat, clean, everything is very modern and well thought out. The room is spacious, there is even a desk and chair. Very comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, good soundproofing. The kitchen has everything you need, and in the same building on the first floor there is a great store where you can buy whatever you need. Very simple and convenient check-in and check-out. The area is good, there is a metro and nice cafes nearby. We really liked the Turkish kebab restaurant in near street. There are always long queues there, but the food is fabulous!

  Great location only a short walk from the s-bahn, and a short trip into the city centre. Check-in was simple and the room was large with everything you could need. This would be a great place to stay for a longer trip in Cologne. I saw some reviews about loud noise – but I didn't have any issues. I was on the top floor above the entrance. Great light and sunshine coming into the room. I didn't use the laundry facilities but appreciate they have them as this can be a struggle in hotels across Europe. Felt safe as a solo female staying here.
  
  What could be improved: The cost was high for what it was – but there was an event in Cologne so all hotel prices were inflated across the city.

  Staying at STAYERY Cologne Ehrenfeld was the best choice I could have made for my trip to Germany!
  + First of all, the room had excellent soundproofing, so I didn’t hear any noise from outside or from neighbors. I was especially pleased with this, as it’s not something I often encounter in other hotels or shared accommodations. This time, it was particularly important because my trip to Cologne was work-related, so a good night's sleep was crucial.
  + The room was fully equipped for a long-term stay, offering extras like a fan, plenty of hangers, and kitchen essentials (i.e. plates, bowls, cutlery, mixing bowls, a pan, a pot, a cutting board, and a kettle). Washing machines, drying racks, and irons were also available downstairs.
  + The entire facility, especially the room, was in excellent condition and properly cleaned once a week.
  + The staff were very friendly and helpful, answering all my questions as quickly as possible.
  + The location was also great, with tram, train stations, and multiple bus stops nearby, making it easy to reach any part of the city within 20 minutes. There were also plenty of shops and restaurants around the corner, as well as a couple of gyms offering one-day passes.
  
  What could be improved: – The Wi-Fi signal was not strong enough for my PC, so the only way I could work was by sitting right next to the door, which wasn’t the most comfortable position. While my phone handled the signal better, I still struggled to watch a movie while lying in bed.
  – The fridge had a significant buildup of ice on the back wall, which regularly froze some of my food if placed on the left side. This made the already limited fridge space even more cramped. I assume this happened because, during the weekly cleaning, the staff would switch off the electricity, causing the ice in the freezer to melt and drip into the fridge compartment, only to freeze again when the power was turned back on. Thankfully, this can be easily fixed for future guests.

  We had an issue with the tv. They managed to find a solution in a few minutes. Comfy bed, nice shower.
