The medieval city wall ruins are right there (hence the “Römerturm” name), and honestly, having those ancient stones as your neighborhood backdrop never gets old. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – even on weekends when the Altstadt can get pretty lively, this particular stretch stays peaceful. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – nothing revolutionary, but everything works properly and the beds are actually comfortable, not just hotel-firm. Some of the rooms on the upper floors have these little glimpses of cathedral spires if you crane your neck just right.

Here’s what sealed it for me though – the staff genuinely knows the city. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but when I asked about finding good Halver Hahn (because honestly, who doesn’t want rye bread and cheese when in Cologne?), the guy at the front desk didn’t just point me toward some tourist trap. He sent me to this tiny Brauhaus three blocks away where I ended up having one of those perfect travel moments, you know? The kind where you’re sitting with locals and nobody’s speaking English but somehow you’re all laughing at the same jokes. That 8.1 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Cologne, but it gets all the important stuff right. You’re in the heart of everything that matters historically, the rooms are genuinely comfortable, and you can walk to incredible restaurants without ever needing the tram. My card was not making payment because machine was not working properly, was very slow to connect anyone could see the Internet connection was not working properly, but he insisted I use another card or pay cash which I did. He also told me he had more important things to do than waste time on me, the PAYING guest .

  The location of the hotel is fantastic, close to the shops, restaurants and tube station, with the main train station within a 10min walk. And the staff are all very friendly.

  Excellent location, good and friendly service, good breakfast, the hard mattress was great. The parking is useful, handy but expensive.
