Savoy Hotel Overview
You know what struck me first about the Savoy Hotel? It’s tucked right into this perfectly preserved corner of Cologne’s old town on Turiner Straße, and honestly, the building itself tells you everything you need to know about the place before you even step inside. There’s this understated elegance that feels genuinely European – none of that flashy chain hotel stuff, but the kind of place where they’ve clearly been doing this for a while and know exactly what they’re about.
The location is actually brilliant if you know Cologne at all. Altstadt-Nord puts you right in the sweet spot where you can walk to the cathedral (I mean, you can see those spires from some of the upper floors), but you’re not dealing with the tourist circus that comes with being right on the main drag. The cobblestone streets around here get quiet after dinner, which is perfect if you’re trying to sleep off jet lag or just want some peace after a day of sightseeing. Parking can be tricky – well, it’s the old town, so that’s sort of expected – but the hotel staff actually knows the neighborhood parking situation and they’ll steer you toward the less obvious spots that locals use.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep that traditional German hospitality without feeling stuffy. The rooms have this warm, lived-in quality that you don’t get at the big international chains. Everything works the way it should (the shower pressure is actually fantastic), and there are these little touches that show someone’s paying attention – fresh flowers that aren’t just for show, windows that open properly so you can hear the church bells in the morning. The breakfast situation is solid too, though I’d skip the hotel dining for dinner and head down to one of the traditional brauhauses just a few blocks away. That’s where you want to be anyway if you’re in Cologne. The whole area comes alive in the evenings, especially during the warmer months when everyone spills out onto the terraces. You’ll find yourself wandering back through these narrow streets around 10 PM, maybe a little buzzed on Kölsch, and appreciating that your hotel is right here in the middle of it all but quiet enough that you can actually get some sleep. For what it is – a proper 4-star place in one of Germany’s most walkable city centers – the Savoy really delivers on that promise of being somewhere you’d actually want to stay, not just crash for the night.
Hotel in Cologne booking should be done early, especially during Carnival season when the city hosts one of Germany’s most famous cultural celebrations.

Amazing breakfast and a great rooftop bar. The rooms are very big and spacious. Everything in the hotel is nicely decorated.
What could be improved: It was a bit hot in the bar area but I think there might have been some maintenance work ongoing while we were there. But the AC in the room worked perfectly!Worth it just for the nights sleep ! – Shelagh from United Kingdom – June 26, 2025 (10/10)

The roof top bar is nice, the location is good, the decor is nice throughout the hotel.
What could be improved: I think rooms should include bottled water, tea and coffee making facilities. I also think the breakfast is underwhelming, especially for €29.Very Good – Julie from United Kingdom – June 25, 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: No coffee making. Despite overload of lights the room was dark

Very trendy hotel just a few minutes walk away from the Dome of Cologne. A bit on the pricier side but for a nice fun weekend in the city it is well worth it.
