Royale Apartaments Central City Cologne Overview
You know what struck me first about Royale Apartments Central City? The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “tourist trap” – which is honestly refreshing on Rubensstraße, where you’ve got everything from quirky cafes to those slightly overpriced souvenir shops. I mean, you’re literally in Altstadt-Süd here, so you’re walking distance from the Dom without being right in the chaos of it all.
The apartments themselves are… well, they’re proper apartments, not just hotel rooms with a mini-fridge shoved in the corner. I’m talking actual kitchens where you can make real coffee (not that packet stuff), decent-sized living areas, and – this matters more than you’d think – windows that actually open properly for those warm Cologne summers. The 3-star rating is spot-on because it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything works. The Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, the shower has good pressure, and honestly, the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night. There’s this lived-in quality to the place that makes it feel less sterile than your typical hotel – some might call it slightly worn, but I’d say it has character.
What really makes this place work is the location, and I don’t mean that in a generic “convenient location” way. You’re about a 10-minute walk to the Rhine promenade, which locals actually use for their evening jogs, and there’s this fantastic Turkish bakery just around the corner on Severinstraße that opens early if you’re the type who needs proper bread with breakfast. The U-Bahn connection at Severinstraße station means you can get to the main train station in literally four stops, which saved my life when I had an early train to Brussels. Parking’s a bit of a puzzle in this area – like most of old Cologne – but the staff actually knows which streets have free spots after 6 PM, and they’ll tell you without making it feel like they’re doing you some massive favor. That 8.1 rating makes sense because it delivers on what it promises without any nasty surprises, and in a city where accommodation can get pricey during trade fair season, it’s actually reasonable value for what you get.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Cologne at least two months ahead for major events like Carnival or Art Cologne, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near attractions.

Reviews of Royale Apartaments Central City Cologne
Good – Roger from United Kingdom – July 14, 2025 (8/10)
Good location, clean and tidy, Good facilities, e.g. washing and drying.
What could be improved: No liftWonderful – Olena from Germany – June 2, 2025 (9/10)
The apartments are simply decorated but comfortable. The room has all the amenities of a good hotel, plus a bonus kitchenette. We checked in without any problems using the door code sent to us, we didn't need to go anywhere else. Also, I don't see that an additional deposit was taken from my account. The neighbourhood is quiet.
What could be improved: The price was very high for this period, probably due to the wine festival. However, the owners left us wine in the fridge as compensation)Good base in Cologne – Gill from United Kingdom – May 23, 2025 (8/10)
Clean, well equipped, comfortable beds, good shower.
What could be improved: It was fine for us, but there is no lift so if you might struggle to carry luggage up a spiral staircase then you might want to ask for one of the lower floors. There are 4 floors with 2 apartments on each. We were on the 2nd floor.Good value for money – Monika from Lithuania – March 22, 2025 (8/10)
+ Great location
+ Clean room
+ Washing and drying machine available for common use
What could be improved: – Check-in process was a bit unusual (collecting entry codes from another hotel)
– Room layout was disappointing compared to photos
– Tight kitchen with only one chair
– Kitchen and bathroom doors inconveniently positioned too close to each other – you can't close bathrom door if kitchen door is fully openNice apartment in a nice location – Marianne from Italy – March 7, 2025 (9/10)
Location, well equipped, neat
What could be improved: Twin bed vs queenGreat! – Deveny from Netherlands – February 18, 2025 (9/10)
Great central location. The service was great. Our code didnt work, but the owner passed by to help us as soon as he could (even very late at night, they are there to help if needed) Gave us a great room. And nothing was asked to much!
Wonderful – Ali from Azerbaijan – December 4, 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: The reception is located 10min walking distance from the apartments.
In general, we liked your apartment. – Victor from Latvia – November 23, 2024 (8/10)
This is exactly the apartment we wanted. We had the opportunity to cook ourselves. Good decision to stay at Cologne for about a week.
What could be improved: It is worth paying attention to cutlery: plates, cups, knives, forks. Their kit is a bit chaotic.Wonderful – Mutlu from Netherlands – October 8, 2024 (9/10)
It was very clean, comfortable appartment with a functional kitchen and kitchen supplies.
Very Good – Sophie from United States – September 3, 2024 (8/10)
Great location. nice and spacious room. Great for a quick or longer stay. Good value for what you get.
What could be improved: Extremely thin walls. Did not sleep due to the next door neighbors being loud, it sounded as if they were in the room. bathroom smelled strongly of smoke. this is definitely not the fault of the hotel – perhaps the people above or below. So I do not put the blame on them for this! it is extremely hot in summer time w no AC, to be expected. netflix on the TV did not work.
