Premier Inn Köln City Mediapark Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Premier Inn on Hansaring, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s got that unmistakable chain hotel look, you know? But here’s the thing about this particular spot in Mediapark: it actually gets the fundamentals really right, and the location is way better than you’d think for a 3-star place.

The Mediapark area itself is sort of this modern business district that most tourists completely miss, which honestly works in your favor. You’re literally a 10-minute walk to the old town along the Rhine – I mean, you can see the cathedral spires from some of the upper floors – but you’re not dealing with all the tourist chaos and inflated prices right outside your door. The U-Bahn stop at Hansaring is practically next door, so getting anywhere in Cologne is dead easy. I stayed here during Karneval season (probably not my smartest move timing-wise), and while the city center was absolute madness, this little pocket stayed relatively sane.

The rooms are exactly what you’d expect from Premier Inn – clean, functional, those signature purple touches everywhere. The beds are actually really comfortable though, and the soundproofing is better than I anticipated given that you’re on a fairly busy street. There’s this weird industrial-chic thing happening in the lobby with exposed concrete and modern lighting that shouldn’t work but somehow does. Check-in was refreshingly quick, and the staff switched between German and English without missing a beat. What I really appreciated were the little details – decent WiFi that actually worked throughout the building, a proper shower with good water pressure (not always a given in Germany, trust me), and blackout curtains that genuinely block out the light. The breakfast isn’t going to win any awards, but it’s solid continental stuff, and they had good coffee, which honestly covers about 80% of my morning requirements.

You know what really sold me on this place though? It’s right in the heart of where actual Cologne residents live and work. There’s a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant called Saigon around the corner that locals pack every night, and this little Turkish bakery two blocks down that does incredible börek. The Mediapark itself has this cool mix of TV studios, tech companies, and regular neighborhood spots – it feels authentic in a way that staying near the Hauptbahnhof definitely doesn’t. Plus, parking here doesn’t cost a fortune if you’re driving, which is practically a miracle in German cities. The 8.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be fancy, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. For the price point, especially if you’re planning to actually explore Cologne rather than just crash in your room, this spot hits that sweet spot between convenience and value.

Reviews of Premier Inn Köln City Mediapark

  • Spacious room – Aaron from Australia – August 10, 2025 (8/10)

The biggest hotel room I've ever stayed in – there was so much space. It was clean and comfortable. Location is a bit further out of the city but its fine if you don't mind walking, and public transport is readily available very close by.

What could be improved: Elevator was very slow.

  • Best place to chose convenien for all – Thiyagarajah from Canada – August 9, 2025 (9/10)

    Very friendly staff and atmosphere

What could be improved: Wifi not work at all

  • It was so wonderful being there – Ankrah from Ghana – August 9, 2025 (8/10)

Breakfast and the rooms are superb

  • You get what you pay for – it's a Premier Inn – Juliet from United Kingdom – August 8, 2025 (8/10)

    Comfy beds, reliable product

What could be improved: Slightly terse receptionist

  • Lovely little find in Cologne – Charlotte from United Kingdom – August 6, 2025 (9/10)

Room was basic but huge for a family sized European room.
Breakfast was plentiful and of reasonable quality, plus all staff I spoke to were lovely. We didn’t eat in the hotel in the evening and that menu seemed sparse (I must acknowledge here that it is a Premier Inn so really wasn’t expecting a large evening menu). Lovely lounge/bar area.

Good location, approx 10min walk to the Dom, or a few minutes travel by SBahn as that is right next door.
A supermarket called ‘Penny’ (like a Lidl) was a few minutes more along the road.

For the price I paid, I was very pleased with the room and the hotel too.

What could be improved: Sadly lacking a fridge but that would be my only gripe about the room.

  • Excellent stay – Robert from Netherlands – August 5, 2025 (9/10)

Room was excellent and comfortable. Staff was very friendly

What could be improved: No fridge in the room. Thought there would be a bathtub in the room

  • Would recommend if staying in cologne. – Stevens from United States – August 4, 2025 (8/10)

Helpful staff, comfortable and large room for a good price. Central location.

What could be improved: Nothing in particular.

  • Wonderful – Anna from United Kingdom – August 1, 2025 (9/10)

Massive room . Great for a family of 4.
    Clean. Tidy. Really good

What could be improved: When booking a family room , I was given description of 1 large bed and 1 sofa bed. I therefore booked 2 rooms as we are 4.
That was unnecessary because 1 room in fact contains 1 double bed and 2 single beds. This should be changed on the website – description of room. We only used 1 room. But paid for 2 unnecessary.

  • Good stay, brief, great rooms and service, noisy corridors and guests way past midnight. – Jethro from Australia – July 31, 2025 (7/10)

The rooms were great and the staff attentive to requests and helpful.

What could be improved: There were alot of people (generally quite young adults) who were extremely noising in the corridors and passages. many were drunk or rowdy trying to get alcohol. while no one minds someone else having a drink it is unpleasnat when you worry about how drunk they are and how loud they are.

  • great stay for an extended day trip – Rebecca from United Kingdom – July 27, 2025 (8/10)

only stayed for one night but it was a really great room. comfy beds. quiet. convenient location. really enjoyed our stay

    What could be improved: nothing
