Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Park Avenue Apartments I Domsuite I Hbf I Netflix I WLAN,” I thought someone had a serious case of keyword stuffing. But you know what? They’re actually just being upfront about what you’re getting, and after staying here, I get it.

The location is absolutely killer if you want to be in the thick of Cologne’s old town without the tourist trap feel. You’re literally on Domstraße, which sounds fancy but it’s actually this charming cobblestone street that feels authentically local. I mean, you can walk to the cathedral in about three minutes – and I’m talking a lazy morning stroll with coffee in hand, not power walking. The Hauptbahnhof (that’s the main train station, hence the “Hbf” in the name) is close enough that you can hear the occasional train if you’re really listening, but honestly it’s more comforting than annoying. Sort of like white noise that reminds you you’re connected to the whole city.

What really surprised me was how much it actually feels like staying in someone’s well-appointed apartment rather than a hotel room. The Netflix thing isn’t just thrown in there for marketing – there’s a proper smart TV setup, and the WiFi (or “WLAN” as they call it here) actually works fast enough to stream without that buffering nightmare you usually get in European hotels. The kitchen area has everything you’d need if you want to grab groceries from the Rewe down the street instead of eating out every meal. I ended up making coffee there most mornings because the setup was just so much nicer than the tiny hotel coffee makers you usually get. The whole place has this lived-in quality – not worn down, mind you, just comfortable. Like the kind of apartment you’d want to rent if you were moving to Cologne.

The Altstadt-Nord neighborhood itself is fantastic for wandering around. You’ve got proper local bars mixed in with the tourist spots, and honestly, some of the best traditional German food I had was at this tiny place called Peters Brauhaus just a few streets over. The area gets busy during the day with people heading to the Dom, but evenings have this lovely quiet energy where you can actually hear conversations spilling out of the beer gardens. Parking is… well, it’s what you’d expect in any European city center, which is to say forget about it unless you enjoy paying through the nose. But with everything walkable and the train connections right there, you really don’t need a car anyway. I’d definitely come back – it’s one of those places that just works without trying too hard to impress you.

  This is a beautiful apartment with all the modern touches in a really convenient location. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was gorgeous. We loved staying here! It was so close to the center of town!

  The location, minutes from the train station, was fantastic and yet the property was very quiet for such an inner city location. The apartment was spacious, clean and very well-equipped and the beds, including the pull-out couch, were very comfortable.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment is on the ground floor and opens immediately onto the sidewalk. This could feel somewhat uncomfortable, however, the front door was heavy and secure so the apartment felt safe.
