You know what caught me off guard about this place? The name makes it sound like some fancy Manhattan high-rise, but you’re actually staying in this gorgeous converted building right in Cologne’s old town. I mean, Schwalbengasse is literally a cobblestone street that feels like it hasn’t changed much since medieval times – except now there’s fiber internet and a massive TV waiting for you upstairs.

The apartment itself is honestly what German efficiency looks like when it’s done with style. That 65-inch TV isn’t just sitting there for show either; they’ve got Netflix all set up, which saved me from the usual hotel channel-surfing nightmare. The kitchen is actually functional too – not one of those sad little kitchenettes with a mini-fridge and a prayer. I ended up cooking breakfast most mornings using ingredients from the weekend market at Wilhelmsplatz, which is maybe a seven-minute walk if you don’t get distracted by all the cafes along the way. The parking situation is worth mentioning because, well, it’s Cologne’s old town and parking is usually a complete disaster. Having a guaranteed spot is basically gold around here, especially when you’re this close to the cathedral and all the tourist chaos.

What really works about the location is that you’re in Altstadt-Nord, so you get all the historic charm without being right on top of the main tourist strips where it gets crazy loud at night. I could hear some street noise during the day – it’s a city center, not a monastery – but evenings were surprisingly quiet. The Dom is close enough that you can easily walk over for that obligatory tourist moment, but far enough that you’re not dealing with tour groups congregating outside your window. Actually, some of my favorite discoveries happened just wandering the little streets around Schwalbengasse. There’s this tiny wine bar called Peters Brauhaus tucked away nearby that I never would have found if I’d stayed in one of those big chain hotels by the train station. The whole area feels lived-in rather than preserved-for-tourists, if that makes sense – real people actually live and work here, which gives it this authentic energy that’s hard to find in old town centers these days. Plus, you’re walking distance from the Rhine, which is perfect for those early morning jogs or late afternoon strolls when you need to clear your head after too much Kölsch the night before.

  Everything, it was a design flat with all the facilities you could need and tastefully decorated. Just 10-15 min walking distance from all the main atractions. We had everything we need to have a comfortably stay. We didn’t want to leave!! 🥰
  
  What could be improved: Really, we couldn’t complain about anything, just little things that could be easily mantained, like the bench in the bedroom, that had a screw to be tightened, or one of the hooks in one of the curtains, that was loose, but easily fix and didn’t affect our stay at all.

  The space is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Great sheets and towels, and the coffee and tea were a pleasant welcome. There was plenty of room for the three of us with a nice smart TV for our downtime. Walking distance to the Cathedral, the train station, grocery store, shopping, and restaurants. The quiet street was a plus.
  
  What could be improved: Checking in was a little of a challenge but partly my fault An early check-in was desired because of an early flight/train arrival from overseas. I didn't request one with sufficient notice (so do so when you book) and communication on route was slow. However, the host arranged for me to have access a couple of hours earlier which was very welcomed since we were jet lagged and it was bitterly cold outside. (There is no access to an inside space without a code) The only other odd factor was the glass-walled shower in the bedroom. No issue if a couple, but I was traveling with my son and father so privacy was a challenge. I hadn't noticed that in the picture.

  What could be improved: The layout of the apartment is interesting. As others have said, the 2 beds are in one room and there is a pull out couch in the other room. This was communicated before arrival, as well, so not really a negative.

  We booked Park Avenue Apartments for a weekend and we had a great time! Beautifully decorated apartment, very clean and great location. Food, shops and tourist spots are within walking distance. Easy check in because of the doorlock. I would book this apartment again!

  Very easy to access with pass code to entry. First floor apartment is better if you have big luggages. They assisted very quickly for our needs. The flat is very centrally located, within walking distance, you can access food, shopping and also tourist places.
