Odessa1 Overview

You know, I almost walked past Odessa1 the first time I looked for it – tucked away on Im Ferkulum, it’s one of those places that doesn’t scream for attention but ends up being exactly what you need. The Altstadt-Süd neighborhood is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than in some tourist bubble. I mean, you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the cathedral (though thankfully far enough that you won’t hear the bells at dawn), and there’s this great little Turkish bakery just around the corner that locals actually go to.

The hotel itself has that comfortable, unpretentious vibe that three-star places do best when they’re run by people who actually care. Nothing fancy, but everything works – and honestly, after spending way too much on some boutique place in Berlin that had Instagram-worthy lighting but terrible water pressure, I appreciated that the shower here actually felt like a shower. The rooms are clean and reasonably spacious, though if you’re staying during Karneval season (which, fair warning, gets absolutely wild in Cologne), book early because this whole area fills up fast. What I really liked was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re right in the thick of things – Im Ferkulum isn’t one of those streets where drunk tourists stumble around at 3 AM singing football chants.

The staff seemed to know their stuff about getting around the city, which matters more than you’d think. They pointed me toward the S-Bahn connection I never would have found on my own, and when I mentioned wanting to check out some brewhouses beyond the obvious tourist ones, they actually gave me decent recommendations in Ehrenfeld. Plus – and this is weirdly important – the WiFi actually reaches your room and doesn’t cut out every twenty minutes. I’ve stayed at supposedly fancier places where I had to sit in the lobby to send emails. Look, Odessa1 isn’t going to blow your mind or end up as your favorite travel story, but sometimes what you want is a clean, comfortable base where you can drop your stuff and head out to explore without worrying about whether your key card will work when you stumble back after too many Kölsch. For the price point in this part of Cologne, it’s honestly a solid choice.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Cologne through trusted local agencies that provide insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for experiencing the city’s rich Roman and medieval heritage.

Reviews of Odessa1

  • Cologne – Shebro1114 from United States – June 15, 2025 (9/10)

Very spacious and clean. Liked that they had a washer/dryer on site. Walking distance to alot of sites.

What could be improved: Not alot of air flow through the apt and was in the 90's. Clubs/bars on the same street so could hear people/music late.

  • Exceptional – Joakim from Sweden – April 17, 2025 (10/10)

Very spacious and nice. WiFi would have been excellent to have. Maybe it's added in the future?

    What could be improved: .

  • Prima Lage in schöner Altbauwohnung – Andreas from Germany – April 11, 2025 (8/10)

Zentral gelegen für einen Köln-City Besuch

  • Very Good – Margaretha from Belgium – April 9, 2025 (8/10)

Very nice apartment in a good area. Shops, restaurants, supermarket and bakery (open every day) close by. Also public transport is very close. Walking to the Dome took us 35 minutes.
Very nice host and it's possible to rent a parking place.

  • Amazing – Uwicyeza from Rwanda – February 6, 2025 (10/10)

    Calm and private

What could be improved: Nothing everything on point

  • Christmas Market Getaway – Strong from Germany – January 3, 2025 (9/10)

We loved the location of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants, but still within reach of the Dom and other attractions by foot (very enjoyable 20 to 30 minute stroll). Very convenient to explore the delightful Christmas markets. The apartment is well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable few days stay or longer. Beds are great with cozy down duvets/pillows and we slept well here.

Our only regret was not having time to spend at the Odessa restaurant downstairs, operated by our host. It smelled divine and brought back delicious memories of family meals. Next time, we will set aside more time to make that happen.

What could be improved: Our only dislike was the heavy perfume from cleaning products or something else in the apartment. We could not find the source. It was a bit overpowering for us, but cleared up when we opened a window.

  • Exceptional – Stanislav from Bulgaria – December 30, 2024 (10/10)

A spacious apartment in the old town of Cologne, in walking distance of all the tourist sights. Exceptional public transportation nearby as well.

The apartment itself contains all possible necessities. Two separate bedrooms and a big studio allow for a family to be accommodated in comfort.

    Extremely helpful and generous hosts.

    What could be improved: –

  • Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. – Kerstin from Germany – November 18, 2024 (8/10)

Die Schlüsselübergabe war etwas kompliziert, da das Schlüsselfach des Türcodes klemmte. Aber aus dem Restaurant kam schnell Hilfe

  • Great location, very friendly host but too pricy for interior and loudiness. – Vanessa from Germany – August 4, 2024 (5/10)

The location within the city. Was very clean except the windows.

What could be improved: Interior was quite old and used. Loud on friday and saturday night until 5 in the morning due to bars downstairs.

  • Exceptional – Swathi from Germany – April 20, 2024 (10/10)

Excellent host, parking facility and in the heart of the city. The house is ultra comfortable and surprisingly soundproofed.
