Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of apartment hotels, and NUVA Apartments at Friesenplatz honestly gets it right in ways that surprised me. The location on Hohenzollernring is actually perfect – you’re literally a two-minute walk from Friesenplatz U-Bahn station, which I mean, if you know Cologne at all, puts you right in the sweet spot between the old town and the university district. The building itself has this clean, modern vibe without feeling sterile, and honestly? The 8.7 rating makes total sense once you’re there.

What really struck me was how they’ve thought about the little things that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two. The apartments – and they’re proper apartments, not just hotel rooms with a kitchenette shoved in the corner – have these big windows that actually open (you know how rare that’s becoming?). The kitchens are genuinely functional too, with full-size appliances and enough counter space to actually cook if you want to hit up the weekly market at Wilhelmsplatz. Speaking of which, that’s maybe a ten-minute walk and absolutely worth it for the cheese alone. The whole Neustadt Nord area has this great energy – it’s where a lot of locals actually live and work, so you’ll find proper bakeries and corner bars mixed in with the trendier spots. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle on the street, but there’s a garage nearby if you’re driving, though honestly, you probably won’t need a car much once you’re settled in.

The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how often that’s not the case. They pointed me toward this little Turkish place around the corner that I never would have found otherwise – Südstadt gets all the foodie attention, but there’s some real gems up here if you know where to look. The apartments themselves feel lived-in in the best way, with decent soundproofing (important on Hohenzollernring since it’s not exactly a sleepy side street) and those small touches like proper hangers in the closets and enough electrical outlets in sensible places. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend not arriving right at rush hour since the area gets pretty busy with commuters heading to and from the city center. It’s the kind of place that works whether you’re in Cologne for business for a week or just want more space than a typical hotel room for a long weekend exploring the city.

  What could be improved: Nothing about the apartment. Just be wary going in and out to close the door properly as quite a few street drinkers in that area.

  Location is ideal, 15 min walk to all the main attractions. Fairly quiet location with a balcony. Soundproofed! 24 hr shop underneath. The bed is super super comfortable, the fridge is so cold!
  Nice shower, amenities provided and toothbrush.
  
  What could be improved: The stair way… the smell was not nice which is a shame for the apartment block which can’t be helped due to the connecting Asian restaurant.

  What could be improved: We stayed in studio balcony apartment 3rd floor, I didn't like that the balcony was shared between apartment next door, this meant that when we used the balcony the neighbour was also using there's which means no privacy plus we couldn't leave our door open during the night due to security reasons. The other residents also smoked one morning my husband found a cigarette packet with used cigarettes and ash on our table, we booked this apartment as it has a No smoking policy but this did not stop them smoking, we knew they were smokers as there were cigarette butts on the balcony floor when we entered the apartment Due to this we won't be returning to these apartments which is a shame as everything else was fabulous, loved the bathroom, the shower was excellent This problem could easily be rectified by partition between apartment balconies.

  That's a perfect place for the people who need to be somewhere central quickly, early in the morning. The location is perfect for it.
  My apartment looked over a quite busy street, so it was kinda noisy outside 24/7, but it didn't bother me really, thanks to earplugs. But for light sleepers, it might be necessary to ask specifically for a room overlooking the backyard.
  Checking in with a code was quite smooth and worked perfectly for me until I reached the room door. Something went wrong there, and the door wouldn't open, so I had to message the support, and they quickly resolved my problem (thank you, you kind person working your shift on Sunday!)
  The room was clean and neat, and all the essentials (including toothbrushes) were there. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the pillows were as well.
  The street, as I said before, is quite lively and it has a lot to offer: a couple of DM stores nearby, a supermarket, lots of cafes.

  Very nice and comfortable stay! The apartment has a great location to shopping, restaurants, bars, grocery, and metro. The kitchen had good essentials for cooking, and the beds were really comfortable for a good night sleep, along with a fan was a bonus. I appreciated the quality of soundproofing as there was busy traffic on the street, which was also nice to people watching from the terrace. I would recommend these apartments!
