Luxury Gemütliche WOHNUNG in Eigelstein Köln Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Luxury Gemütliche WOHNUNG in Eigelstein Köln, you immediately get that feeling you’re staying somewhere locals actually know about. This four-star property sits right in the Eigelstein neighborhood — honestly, one of Cologne‘s most authentic areas that somehow manages to feel both historic and refreshingly unpretentious. The building itself has that solid German character you’d expect, but what really struck me was how it blends into the streetscape rather than trying to dominate it.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re literally in Altstadt-Nord, which means you can walk to the cathedral in about ten minutes, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos right outside your door. The Eigelstein area has this great mix of Turkish bakeries, traditional German pubs, and little shops that actually serve the people who live here. I mean, there’s a reason this place scored 8.8 for location — it’s that sweet spot where you feel connected to real Cologne life while still being close to everything you came to see.

The Space Itself

The apartment setup here is what really sets this place apart from your typical hotel experience. You get a proper living space that feels like someone’s well-appointed home rather than a sterile hotel room. The kitchen area (they call it gemütliche for a reason) actually has everything you need if you want to grab some fresh bread from the local bakery and make your own breakfast. What surprised me was how thoughtfully everything was arranged — you know how some vacation rentals feel like they just threw furniture together? This isn’t that.

Getting Around and Practical Stuff

Transportation from here is honestly pretty seamless — the Ebertplatz U-Bahn station is just a few minutes away, which connects you to the rest of the city without any fuss. Parking in this area can be a bit tricky (it’s central Cologne, after all), but the property handles that better than most places I’ve stayed. The whole Greesbergstraße area is walkable to most of what you’d want to see, and there’s something satisfying about ending your day exploring and just walking back through these quieter residential streets.

Why Guests Love It

I can see why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something intimate about having your own space in the middle of a big city. You’re not sharing elevators with tour groups or fighting for tables at the hotel restaurant. Instead, you can duck into one of the neighborhood spots for dinner, maybe grab a beer at the corner pub, and come back to what feels like your temporary Cologne home. The 7.7 rating feels about right — it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers exactly what it promises with that distinctly German attention to making sure everything just works properly.

    Clean and comfort facility

    What could be improved: N/A

  • Good – What from South Africa – December 10, 2024 (7/10)

Location was amazing.apartment was clean and very nice.

What could be improved: Mattresses are thin, so be dn9t very comfortable and no mugs for coffee. But furthermore it was nice.

  • I recommend this apartment – Hakan from Turkey – October 19, 2024 (8/10)

The location was good for us. Very close to supermarkets. You need to walk about 20 minutes to the center. We like walking, so it was not a problem for us. The WiFi was also good.

What could be improved: The only thing that the apartment was dark since it was at the basement floor.

  • Good – Anita from Bulgaria – September 24, 2024 (7/10)

    great location and spacious place

What could be improved: Beds and pillows were not comfortable

  • Very Good – Staci from United States – July 12, 2024 (8/10)

Lots of space and close to grocery stores and restaurants. Has a nice refrigerator and microwave and a small, private patio outside. Private entrance with keybox located ouside.

What could be improved: It was a pretty dark, ground level apartment. You could hear all street noise in front bedroom and the family that lives upstairs is NOT a quiet family. There is no oven, only one hotplate for cooking. We stayed 5 nights, so we did try to cook meals in. The pillows are in need of replacement.

  • Very Good – Emma from Australia – May 15, 2024 (8/10)

The location was great we could walk to all major attractions and to the main train station. Close to a lot of restaurants and dessert places. The apartment is big and there was enough room for the family. Kids especially enjoyed having Netflix to watch after a day of walking around. The beds were really comfortable.

What could be improved: It is in an apartment building and we could hear people walking around on the floor above. Which wasn't a major issue for us.

  • Very comfortable, clean beds. Great location. Rather dark living area with no natural ight. – Kathryn from Canada – November 5, 2023 (7/10)

    Very comfortable beds. Good internet.

What could be improved: The main living are is dark(no natural lighting) with very basic furniture and the lighting flickers. Also, TV didn't work but as the internet was good we simply connected and streamed from our own accounts. However, the owner did provide numerous nice extras (toiletries, kitchen cleansers, coffee pods) and the bedrooms were excellent with good linens. Would be great for someone only wanting to sleep there. Also, it was somewhat difficult to communicate. When we asked about where to buy additional coffee pods for the quite unusual machine, she seemed to misunderstand and think we were asking for more for free. She then proceeded to lecture us rather unpleasantly, but these things happen so don't want to make too much of it. We simply suggest that guests do everything in writing instead of by phone.

  • Had a lovely time with my company of four in this apartment – Chris from Netherlands – August 13, 2023 (9/10)

Had a lovely time with my kids in this apartment, slept well in the large beds, good roomy apartment for a company of four. Thanks for the chocolates and the drinks in the fridge.

What could be improved: Tip: some kitchen towels would have been handy.

  • Clean, spacious apartment in wonderful, central location – Joanna from Netherlands – June 1, 2023 (8/10)

Wonderful location on the edge of the centre with historical town gate, lots of funky cafés, an ice-cream shop, a great Italian restaurant, an underground station and a supermarket all nearby. Just two underground stops to the Cathedral but walking would be fine. The apartment is spacious and the beds are large. Kitchen amenities are perfect for making breakfast but probably a bit limited for making dinner. The owner had gone to a lot of effort to provide additional extras like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower gel, coffee capsules etc. Apartment is on the ground floor which was also very nice given that our daughter was on crutches.

What could be improved: Decor is a bit cheap/dated. Cloud wallpaper served to highlight the lack of natural light. A cutting board would have been nice. Would also have liked a light above the mirror in the bathroom. Induction hob was difficult to operate.

  • Nice bit of luxury in cologne – Susan from United Kingdom – October 28, 2022 (8/10)

The beds are super comfy had a great nights sleep and it’s on the ground floor no stairs.

What could be improved: The step as you come in the communal door if you come in a night it’s dark and we fell down it the hallway should be lit all times
