Lipp Apartments Overview
So you’re looking at Lipp Apartments on Bergisch-Gladbacher-Straße – and honestly, I’ve got to say this place surprised me in a good way. When I first pulled up (parking’s actually pretty decent here, which is saying something for Cologne), I wasn’t expecting much from what looks like a fairly standard apartment building. But you know what? Sometimes those unassuming spots end up being exactly what you need.
The thing about staying in Holweide is that you’re getting a real slice of how locals actually live – none of that tourist bubble stuff you get closer to the Dom. I mean, you’re still only about 15 minutes to the city center by S-Bahn, and the Holweide station is basically a short walk away. The neighborhood itself has this quiet, residential feel with actual grocery stores and bakeries where people grab their morning brötchen, not overpriced tourist traps. There’s a decent Turkish restaurant just down the street that I ended up hitting twice during my stay, and a little Edeka if you want to stock up on basics for your apartment.
What I really appreciated about Lipp Apartments was how they’ve managed to make the units feel homey without trying too hard. The kitchenettes are properly equipped – I’m talking real plates, not plastic nonsense – and the Wi-Fi actually works consistently (you’d be amazed how often that’s not the case). Sure, it’s a 3-star place with a 7.4 rating, so you’re not getting luxury finishes or daily housekeeping, but everything’s clean and functional. The beds were comfortable enough, though the pillows were a bit soft for my taste – but that’s probably just me being picky. One small thing that bugged me was the shower pressure wasn’t amazing, but honestly, after walking around Cologne all day, even a gentle rinse felt pretty good. The walls are reasonably thick too, so you won’t be kept awake by every conversation in the hallway, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Cologne at least two months ahead for major events like Carnival or Art Cologne, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near attractions.

Reviews of Lipp Apartments
Fair – Garcia from United States – March 10, 2025 (5/10)
The location was really good, the service from the Owner top!
What could be improved: The apartment stink like cigarette everywhere, I maked a coffee and it tasted like a cigarette.. I think there sleep people that smoked too much and then they left every place from the apartment with it. It was really uncomfortable for us bc we don’t smoke!Poor – Kosina from Czech Republic – December 11, 2024 (3/10)
What could be improved: Cigarette smell everywhere.
Not properly cleaned room, bathroom.
Needed to have window open, so it was cold then.Far from the city centre, but value for money! – Kushan from India – November 11, 2024 (7/10)
The place is clean and quiet. The staff is helpful. I arrived really late in the night, but they had an auto-check-in procedure, which helped me check in and get my card within 5 mins. Since then, the person at the reception was warm and helpful.
What could be improved: The distance from the city centre is a bit of an issue. There is one bus line which goes to Moosach railway station, from where you have to take a train to get to the middle of the city. The bus comes once every 20 mins, and during peak hours, can be full so you won't get space and will have to wait for the next one. Germany, generally, has good public transit infrastructure and things (more or less) run on time. But this can get unnerving for people who are unfamilar with public transport. However, I want to clarify that there is no misinformation and this place is able to keep its costs down because of its distance from the city centre.Fantastic – Des from United Kingdom – June 26, 2024 (10/10)
Convenient and clean and friendly owners
What could be improved: NothingNice for a short stay, but the cleanliness makes you to want to leave early. – Segarra from Germany – July 12, 2023 (7/10)
It's convenient for a short stay and the connection with Köln is not bad (you only need to walk a bit and take a train).
What could be improved: The apartment was huge, but the space wasn't specially well used. The bathroom was okay, but the pressure of the water of the sink was around zero (it was even more comfortable to brush my teeth and wash my face in the kitchen :/). The owners should clean and disconnect the fridge and leave it open while nobody is there, because it smelled really really weird.
Mopping the floor would be also nice…Good – Anonymous from United Kingdom – January 2, 2023 (7/10)
Good parking.
What could be improved: Lack of hot water (apartment 9).
No spare toilet paper (both apartments).
Lack of cutlery (apartment 9).
Lack of plates, bowls, cups.
No chopping board (apartment 9).
No door tray in fridge (apartment 9).
No sharp cutting knife (apartment 9).Nice apartment in an ugly place – Israel from Spain – September 26, 2022 (8/10)

What could be improved: LocationFair – Andrey from Belgium – September 19, 2022 (5/10)
the size of the room
What could be improved: bed, noisy streetGreat place – Andrea from Guatemala – September 11, 2022 (8/10)
It was a good place to stay, staff was kind and they let me park a bicycle that i had during the trip.
What could be improved: The curtins didn’t cover the whole window. The sun was terrible during summer, no curtins to cover didn’t help with sleep.Nice neighborhood, good connection to the city – Tamas from Hungary – August 30, 2022 (8/10)
Nice neighborhood with shops and restaurants. The tram ride to the apartment was beautiful. The room and the kitchen was well equipped.
What could be improved: The key handover was a little difficult, they didn't respond to our email, the only means of communication was by phone. The keys opened both the entrance door and our apartment door, and once someone opened our door with his key while we were inside, so after that we were afraid of leaving any valuables in the room.
