The building itself has that solid German efficiency vibe, and honestly, after staying here, I can see why couples keep coming back (they rate the location an impressive 8.8, which makes total sense once you’re actually here).

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about the Neustadt Nord location — you’re close enough to Cologne‘s main attractions without being stuck in the tourist chaos. The cathedral and old town are totally walkable, but you can also duck back to this quieter neighborhood when you need a break from the crowds. The area has that lived-in feel where actual locals go about their business, which I always prefer over staying right in the thick of things. Plus, public transport connections are solid if you want to explore further out.

The Room Experience

My room was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run German hotel — clean lines, quality furnishings, and everything actually works properly. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not bumping into everything. What struck me most was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets where you actually need them, and windows that open properly for fresh air. It’s the kind of place where you can tell someone’s thought through how people actually use hotel rooms.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup here is actually impressive — they’ve got this buffet situation that covers pretty much every dietary need you can think of. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free options are all there and clearly labeled, which is refreshing when you’re traveling with different dietary requirements. The quality is solid too; this isn’t just about checking boxes but actually providing food people want to eat. I mean, you know how hotel breakfasts can be hit or miss, but they’ve really nailed it here.

  The location is quite great. It's close to the Zoo and you can also take a stroll along the Rhine. It's a quiet area and easy to reach by foot or even by tram, from the Cologne Dome.

  The hotel is very comfortable and well equipped. The front office staff were very helpful. The room was very quiet. The breakfast was excellent.
  
  What could be improved: The hotel is a little way from the railway station and the central city area although it is accessible from the local underground and by walking along the river walkway.

  The location is great. Right on the river and close to the centre – especially if you like walking. Breakfast was good and the breakfast room was perfectly adequate. I was given a list of local restaurants etc.
  
  What could be improved: The shower had a curtain rather than screen which is never good. I was disappointed that when I came back to the hotel in the evening, my half drank cup of tea was left on the table (even though the kettle was put away), a stain from a spilled tea on the bathroom floor was still there and the bed wasn't touched as it it was never made. I have never been in a hotel where that would happen.
