The beds are actually really good (which matters more than fancy amenities when you’re walking around Cologne all day), and the windows open properly, which is surprisingly rare these days. You can hear the cathedral bells, which sounds touristy but is actually quite lovely, especially in the evening when the crowds thin out.

The breakfast buffet is where this place really shows its personality. It’s not one of those overwhelming spreads with fifty different items, but everything they do have is done well. Fresh bread, proper German cold cuts, decent coffee — the basics executed properly. The breakfast room has these big windows looking toward the old town, so you’re already planning your day while you eat. I mean, when you can see the Dom from your breakfast table, you’re doing something right.
