Hotel Medo Köln Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Medo Köln? It’s tucked away in Flittard – honestly, I had to Google where that was before my first visit – but it’s actually this quiet residential area that feels miles away from the tourist chaos downtown. The building itself sits on Roggendorfstraße, which sounds intimidating if you don’t speak German, but it’s just a pleasant tree-lined street where you can actually find parking (hallelujah). The facade has that clean, modern German aesthetic – not flashy, but solid in a way that makes you feel like everything’s going to work properly.

Inside, there’s this understated efficiency that I’ve come to appreciate about German hospitality. The lobby smells faintly of coffee and has this warm lighting that doesn’t scream “budget hotel” but doesn’t try too hard either. Check-in was smooth – the staff spoke excellent English, which saved me from butchering more German phrases than necessary. My room was on the third floor, and here’s something I really liked: the windows actually open wide (not just those tiny European tilts), so you can get proper fresh air without running the AC constantly. The beds are firm in that Northern European way, and honestly, I slept better than I expected. The bathroom was compact but thoughtfully designed – good water pressure, which you can’t take for granted everywhere.

What really works about this place is its position as a launching pad for exploring Cologne without dealing with city center prices and noise. You’re about a 15-20 minute drive to the Dom and all the main attractions, but here’s the thing – the public transport connections are actually pretty decent once you figure them out. There’s a bus stop practically outside that gets you to the U-Bahn, and from there you’re golden. I found myself coming back to the hotel mid-afternoon sometimes just to recharge, which you’d never do if you were staying right in the thick of things. The neighborhood has a few local spots – there’s a decent bakery about a block away where the owner remembered my terrible German pronunciation after day two. For dinner, you’ll probably want to head into the city proper, though there are some solid local options if you ask at the front desk. The 7.3 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. Perfect for travelers who want a reliable base without paying tourist-zone premiums.

Reviews of Hotel Medo Köln

  • Good – Adriana from Finland – August 5, 2025 (7/10)

We had the family room with the kids room, which my kids loved. However the hotel could improve the cleaning. The hotel is outside of the city, some 15min away by car, it has free parking.

What could be improved: Despite having the room with a small kitchen, there was no kitchen supplies at all, only 2 glasses.
Also, half of the balls in the ball pool were broken, some maintenance needed it.

  • A good experience. I would come back – Trang from Netherlands – May 31, 2025 (8/10)

staff are friendly. the hotel is right next to a bus stop so it’s easy to reach, although the neighborhood is quite far from the city center. the room is clean and in good condition.

What could be improved: the neighborhood is quite far from city center

  • Very Good – Nađa from Serbia – March 31, 2025 (8/10)

It was clean, and when I asked – the staff was helpful and very nice.

What could be improved: However, the location was far from places where I could eat or go shopping, and the bus was unpredictable.

  • Very Good – Nakad from Germany – March 9, 2025 (8/10)

Staff is friendly, the room is cute, the location is a bit far from the center but the bus stop is literally out the door.

  • Pleasant – Jeroen from Belgium – December 23, 2024 (6/10)

What could be improved: The hygiene of the room was not up to standard, the bathroom was clean but not the carpet or bed.

  • Nice hotel will be great with all improvements being carried out – Lisa from United Kingdom – December 22, 2024 (7/10)

Nice decor will be lovely when finished renovating completed

What could be improved: Pillows are awful

  • Very Good – Julia from Germany – October 7, 2024 (8/10)

The hotel is really beautifully decorated (I believe this is still in process, as there was a bit of construction around). Absolutely perfect for the price as well, very reasonable. It was possible to park behind the hotel or on the nearby street for free without much trouble.

What could be improved: It is not centrally located for Köln but quite optimal for Leverkusen.

  • Fair… they change my room which made a big differe difference. – Samar from Switzerland – October 5, 2024 (7/10)

The staff and owners are super nice, they genuinely make an effort to make your stay comfortable. They can clean the windows… without air conditioning I had to keep the windows open. I really wished the windows were clean.

What could be improved: The location is really far from the city center so if you are there to party and see the city, this won’t be a nice stay.

  • Very Good – Adrian from France – October 4, 2024 (8/10)

It was a good experience. I slept very well, good prices at the bar, free parking at the hotel. 20 min from Lanxess arena

What could be improved: Parking was behind the hotel and because of the works inside and outside, I had to turn all around the hotel

  • Very Good – Adrian from Netherlands – August 4, 2024 (8/10)

Nice tidy room at good location. Easy to find parking spots. Nice staff.

What could be improved: Shower head was impossible to adjust in a way to spray down, it kept turning to the walls and there wasn't anything to tighten it. Pillow were not very comfortable.
