Hotel Ludwig Superior Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Ludwig Superior on Brandenburger Straße, you immediately get that “this is exactly where I want to be” feeling. It’s one of those three-star places that punches way above its weight — honestly, the location alone makes it feel like you’ve struck gold. The building has this classic German charm without being stuffy, and you can tell right away that someone actually cares about the details here.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about staying in Altstadt-Nord — you’re basically in the sweet spot of Cologne. I mean, you can walk to the cathedral in about ten minutes, and the old town spreads out around you like you’re living in a postcard. The couples who stay here absolutely love it (they rate the location 9.7, which honestly makes perfect sense), and I get why. You’ve got that perfect mix of being central but not feeling like you’re sleeping on top of a tourist trap. The Rhine is just a short stroll away, and you know what? Sometimes the best part of traveling is just wandering around without a plan.
The Room Experience
The room itself feels thoughtfully put together — nothing flashy, but everything works exactly as it should. You get that sense that they’ve figured out what travelers actually need versus what looks good in photos. The beds are properly comfortable (which, let’s be honest, can make or break a trip), and there’s enough space to actually unpack without feeling like you’re playing Tetris with your luggage. The whole “Superior” part of the name isn’t just marketing speak — there are those little touches that show they’re paying attention.
Breakfast & Practical Matters
The breakfast situation here is actually impressive — they’ve got everything from full English to vegetarian, halal, kosher, you name it. It’s one of those buffets where you don’t feel like you’re settling for whatever’s left over. They even do breakfast to go if you’re the type who wants to grab something and explore early (which, in Cologne, is honestly a great strategy). There’s parking available too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate German city centers with a car will appreciate — that’s not always a given in these central locations.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both central and peaceful. You’re close enough to everything that matters — the cathedral, the museums, those little brewhouses where locals actually drink — but you’re not dealing with the chaos that comes with some of the more touristy spots. The staff seems to get that balance too; they’re helpful without being hovering, and they know their city well enough to point you toward the good stuff. For the price point, you’re getting way more than you’d expect, especially with that location score of 9.7 backing up what you’ll feel the moment you step outside.

What could be improved: NothingLovely quiet modern room couple of minutes walk from main station. – Kirsten from United Kingdom – August 10, 2025 (10/10)
Very close to rear side of main station maybe three minutes walk. 24hr Front Desk was very convenient for late arrival. Hotel looks quite old-fashioned but my room was modern and wonderful! Plenty of shelves and storage, beautiful bathroom, plug sockets by the bed and on the desk – proper automated blinds to keep the light out, and NO noise at all from outside! It was amazing. I did not have breakfast but it all looked lovely.

Nice family hotel perfectly positioned for the old town – Nick_hodge from United Kingdom – July 14, 2025 (9/10)
This hotel is the 'right' side of the station with just a quick walk through it to the cathedral square and old town. The staff are great and very welcoming, breakfast was good and they had spaces in the courtyard for our four motorcycles. I have stayed at this hotel annually from 1989 to 2009 so this was a nostalgia trip and they didn't disappoint. Highly recommended

Wonderful – Armando from Philippines – May 10, 2025 (9/10)
It is located in a very convenient site which is about 5 minutes to the Cologne Central Station. The breakfast was good and the free mini bar was a pleasant surprise. The room (suite) was very spacious and seems to be newly renovated filled with amenities that make your stay comfortable. The staff were also very helpful and accommodating.
What could be improved: Nothing much to say here.Lovely little hotel close to the station with a great breakfast. – Joanna from United Kingdom – April 27, 2025 (9/10)
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The hotel was clean and catered well for guests – not part of a big chain. We enjoyed the breakfast, good selection of food coffee and teas and excellent service. It is just a 5 minute walk from the main station and they were able to accommodate us at short notice when delays meant we missed our connecting train. Would make a good base for a longer stay.
What could be improved: The pillows were too soft for us, and no tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
