The Rhine’s just a few minutes’ walk away, and you can easily wander to the Heumarkt or pop into those quirky little shops along Hohe Straße without dealing with any tourist bus chaos. Parking can be a bit tricky since these medieval streets weren’t exactly designed for cars, but the hotel staff actually helped me find a spot in a nearby garage – that kind of personal touch you don’t expect from a three-star place.

Here’s the thing about Hotel Glockengasse – it punches way above its weight class. The rooms aren’t huge (this is a historic building, after all), but they’re thoughtfully designed with these lovely wooden touches that feel authentic rather than themed. I particularly appreciated how quiet it was at night despite being right in the heart of everything – thick walls, I suppose. The breakfast was surprisingly good too, with local breads and cheeses that actually taste like they came from somewhere specific rather than a generic hotel supplier. Honestly, the whole experience felt more like staying at a well-run family guesthouse than a typical hotel chain. The staff seemed to genuinely enjoy chatting about Cologne’s hidden spots, and I ended up discovering this amazing brauhaus they recommended that I never would have found otherwise. For the price point and that 8-point rating, it makes total sense – this is the kind of place that makes you want to come back to Cologne just so you can stay here again.

  The location was a short walk (15 minutes) to the train station and cathedral. The room was clean and a good value for the money. It was one block to a walking street with lots of shops and restaurants.

  This hotel in the heart of Cologne was great to visit different Christmas markets. The room was sober but well equipped. We only saw the staff on our arrival, but they did notice that one of our slippers was broken and they replaced it before we even mentioned it.

  Very clean, comfortable beds, and quiet! Despite a heatwave during our stay the room stayed relatively cool despite no AC, and a fan was provided in the room without needing to ask!
