Niehl isn’t exactly central Cologne, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re away from the tourist crowds while still being well-connected to the city center. The neighborhood has this authentic, residential vibe that I really appreciated — you know, actual locals going about their daily business rather than souvenir shops on every corner. Free parking is available right at the hotel, which is honestly a godsend if you’re driving in Germany. Most Cologne hotels charge a fortune for parking, so this alone makes Hotel Fortune worth considering.

The Room Experience

My room was exactly what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, functional, and surprisingly quiet given that we’re in a city. The beds are comfortable enough that I actually slept well, and the bathroom, while not spacious, had everything I needed. What I liked most was the attention to small details — proper reading lights, enough outlets for your devices, and blackout curtains that actually work. It’s clear they’ve thought about what travelers actually need rather than just what looks good in photos.

Breakfast & Dining

The buffet breakfast is where Hotel Fortune really shines. I mean, it’s not fancy, but it’s comprehensive and fresh — exactly the kind of meal that sets you up properly for a day of exploring Cologne. They’ve got the German breakfast staples covered, plus enough international options that most guests will find something they like. The coffee is actually decent too, which isn’t always a given at three-star properties. The breakfast room gets busy around 8 AM, so if you prefer a quieter start to your day, aim for earlier or later.

There’s something to be said for a hotel that earns genuine loyalty from its guests — and Hotel Fortune clearly does that, with more repeat visitors than most places I’ve stayed. Couples seem particularly drawn to it, probably because it offers that sweet spot of comfort and value without any unnecessary fuss. If you’re looking for a reliable base in Cologne that won’t break the bank but will actually take care of you, this place delivers on that promise.

  The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly, and the air conditioning kept the room cool even during hot day. The location is a bit far from the city center but on the plus side, there’s plenty of parking space, and the nearest tram station is less than 10 minutes away on foot.
  There were a couple of weddings during our stay but once we closed the window, it was perfectly quiet inside the room.

  It was an excellent location with all what you need. If you wish to stop in Koln without paying the green ticket this is the place.
