Haus Enteresan Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Haus Enteresan? It’s actually right on the Rhine – I mean, you step out the front door on Frankenwerft and you’re basically staring at the water. Most people think “Altstadt-Nord” and picture tourist traps, but this little stretch is different. It’s where locals actually walk their dogs in the morning before the tour groups show up.
The hotel itself is honestly what I’d call charmingly no-nonsense. Three stars, sure, but it’s got that solid German efficiency thing going on without being sterile about it. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Cologne’s old town, after all, where buildings have been squeezed together since medieval times – but they’re thoughtfully laid out. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which is sort of miraculous considering you’re a five-minute walk from Heumarkt and all that action. The windows actually work, you know?
Here’s the thing that’ll save you some hassle: parking around here is basically a nightmare (welcome to any German city center), but there’s a decent garage about two blocks over on Cäcilienstraße if you’re driving. Most people just take the train in anyway – the Heumarkt stop is right there, and honestly, you can walk to the Dom in maybe ten minutes if you don’t mind dodging the occasional tour group. I actually ended up walking everywhere because the location is just that good.
The staff runs the place like they actually live in the neighborhood, which they probably do. They’ll tell you where to get proper Himmel un Ääd instead of sending you to some tourist place, and they’re pretty realistic about things like when the riverside gets crowded (basically any sunny weekend from April through October). Check-in was smooth – no drama, just efficient and friendly in that straightforward way Germans do hospitality.
Look, it’s not going to blow you away with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies, but that’s sort of the point. This is a place that gets the fundamentals right: comfortable bed, good location, fair price, and staff who know what they’re doing. The 7.8 rating feels about right – solidly good without trying to be something it’s not. If you want to stay somewhere that feels connected to actual Cologne rather than tourist Cologne, and you don’t need a concierge or room service, this works really well. Plus, you’ll have money left over for proper beer at Peters Brauhaus down the street.

Reviews of Haus Enteresan
It was a fantastic stay, great location, on the Rhein, old picturesque buildings and on top of an ice cream shop. – Douglas from South Africa – August 4, 2025 (9/10)
It was a fantastic location.
What could be improved: Access for big bags and strollers. But worth it for the location and type of house.Conveniently located, great breakfast, good value for money. – Andrii from United Kingdom – August 2, 2025 (9/10)
Location of the place is really good both for the station and promenade, and team was super helpful, and showed us to apartment, which was very handy under the rain. Breakfast was great as well.
Great location, good price. – Milos from Serbia – June 22, 2025 (7/10)
Location is perfect. Room "Double Room with Street View" was not in front of the river, but in second quiet street behind. Very big Studio with two large double beds, with kitchen and clean toilet. Breakfast good, not very good. WiFi ok. The staff is very friendly and late check-in is possible until 11pm.
What could be improved: The TV programs didn't work. The bedding was dark gray, not white or a lighter color, so we can only trust that it was clean.Wonderful – Jan from Netherlands – May 29, 2025 (9/10)
Location is fantastic! Right in the heart of the city at the Rhine river.
A small guesthouse in a classic building right by the river – Adam from Poland – May 19, 2025 (9/10)
A nice small guesthouse with a cafe on the ground floor. You can get in and out quickly via a wooden staircase. The building has its charm, and the rooms are quite big. Very good view of the river. Ideal for a short stay. The hosts were really friendly – earlier breakfast was not an issue, even 3 times in a row 🙂
What could be improved: The bathroom is a bit sketchy. It could be renovated. But no one should complain at this price point.A bit small but very clean and a good location – James from United Kingdom – March 28, 2025 (8/10)
Location and very clean
What could be improved: The pillows were very bad. A bit small. The photos made it look much bigger.Very Good – Kemal from United Kingdom – January 6, 2025 (8/10)
The location and the breakfast were fantastic.
Quiet apartment close to the Christmas Market – Mark from United Kingdom – December 5, 2024 (9/10)
Although the listing is for a small house on the Rheinside over a café, we were housed in a large studio apartment about 100m closer to the city centre. This worked really well for us. The breakfast selection was one of the best I have ever had in Germany, and was served each morning in the café.
What could be improved: Had to go shopping to grab a few essentials such as tea, milk and sugar, but that was really the only mildly negative issue.Wonderful – Karena from Malaysia – November 23, 2024 (9/10)
Very good location. Walking distance to everything we needed for a short stay in Cologne. Room is clean, right beside the river.
What could be improved: Stairs up to the room are narrow. Not a problem for us, but do take note, if carrying big bags.Wonderful – 2boys from Netherlands – October 21, 2024 (9/10)
The location is perfect, next to the Rhein and in the old town. The apartment is clean and fully equipped. The breakfast was sufficiently well. Paid parking (CONTIPARK Tiefgarage Heumarkt) is 250m away, very closeby, about 30 euro per day. There are cheaper ones around, we try to walk as little as possible.
What could be improved: I dont know any.
