You know what struck me first about FEWO Cologne? It’s actually in Grengel, which most tourists have never heard of – and honestly, that’s part of its charm. I mean, you’re technically still in Cologne, but you get this quieter, more residential feel that’s refreshing after dealing with the usual city center chaos. The address says Waldstraße, and there really are more trees around here than you’d expect for being so close to everything that matters.

The whole setup feels more like staying at a well-organized friend’s place than some sterile hotel chain. I was skeptical about the 4-star rating at first – you know how those can be inflated – but the 8.8 guest rating actually makes sense once you’re there. The apartments (and yeah, it’s more apartment-style than traditional hotel rooms) have this lived-in quality that somehow manages to be both homey and properly maintained. What I really appreciated was the kitchen situation – not just some sad mini-fridge and microwave combo, but actual cooking space where you could make a proper meal if you wanted to skip another schnitzel dinner.

Location-wise, it’s sort of perfect for a specific type of traveler. If you’re flying in or out of Cologne Bonn Airport, you’ll actually thank yourself for choosing this place over something in the Altstadt. The airport connection is genuinely convenient without being so close that you’re dealing with plane noise – I slept better here than at most city center hotels, honestly. But here’s the thing: you’re not stuck out in suburban nowhere either. Getting into central Cologne is straightforward enough (the S-Bahn connections work well, though you’ll want to check the evening schedules if you’re planning late nights), and there’s something nice about coming back to a neighborhood where locals are walking their dogs and kids are playing in small parks instead of dodging tourist groups and street performers.

The whole experience feels more authentic to how people actually live in Cologne, which I found surprisingly appealing after a few days. There’s a decent bakery within walking distance – the kind where the woman behind the counter will patiently help with your terrible German – and a small grocery store that stays open later than you’d expect. Parking was refreshingly painless, which anyone who’s tried to park in central Cologne will immediately understand the value of.

I’d probably recommend this place most to people who want easy airport access but still want to experience Cologne properly, or honestly, anyone who’s done the tourist hotel thing before and wants something that feels more real. It’s not going to work if you want to stumble back to your room after late drinks in the Belgian Quarter, but if you’re comfortable with a short journey to get back to a genuinely peaceful night’s sleep, it’s a solid choice that makes a lot more sense than the price tag initially suggests.

  Just a few minutes 10euros taxi from airport. Easy self check in. Modern, freshly decorated twin room studio with shower room. Coffee and machine, a few plates and cutlery. Fast Internet. 20 min walk back to airport in the morning.

  I really enjoyed the stay! The location was nice, the owner was very friendly and met us at the entrance. There is a possibility to park behind the gate. The studio flat with bathroom was very clean with everything you need inside. I can surely recommend staying here.

  The studio is closely located near the airport (15-20 minute walk) and is private as it is behind a gate. The room was clean, neat, and modern. There was also a little kitchen.
  Everything was very good and we enjoyed our stay!
  
  What could be improved: The room was a bit warm, but there was a fan in the room. The blankets on the bed were a bit dense in some way, because it caused us to feel overheated throughout the night. Other than these minor points, everything was good!

  Easy access, great location, safe car park and good host. We only stayed there for a day , I wish i had booked for more than one day as Cologne is a great city and 1 day was not enough to be around. There are plenty of shops around to get snacks / breakfast items if needed. The place had remote keys so gates open thru remote and car can be parked inside the gates, overall a great stay. I highly recommend this place.
