The souterrain setup means you’re below street level, but honestly? It’s surprisingly bright and feels more like a cozy ground-floor retreat than a typical basement.

What really got me was how thoughtfully everything’s been set up here. The hosts clearly know what travelers actually need – there’s proper counter space in the kitchen (not just some sad mini-fridge situation), decent water pressure in the shower, and they’ve managed to make the space feel airy despite being underground. The whole apartment has this lived-in comfort that screams “someone’s grandmother decorated this with love” rather than “we bought everything from IKEA in one trip.” I mean, you’re getting solid 4-star vibes without the sterile hotel feeling. The area itself is pretty brilliant if you want to experience Cologne like an actual resident rather than a tourist. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the cathedral, but the tram connections are dead simple – line 1 gets you into the city center in about 20 minutes, and honestly, coming home to this peaceful neighborhood after a day of sightseeing felt like a gift. There’s a decent bakery just down the street where the woman behind the counter actually remembers your order after two visits, and if you need groceries, there’s a proper supermarket within walking distance.

The only minor thing – and this is really nitpicking given that 8.8 rating – is that being a souterrain, you do get the occasional footsteps from above during the day. Nothing dramatic, just the reality of the setup. But by evening it’s dead quiet, which actually made for some of the best sleep I’ve had in ages. The hosts are the type who respond to messages quickly but don’t hover, and they’ve left these little local recommendations that feel genuinely useful rather than just tourist trap suggestions. If you’re the sort of traveler who’d rather have a proper base to explore from instead of cramming into some overpriced city center box, this place makes a lot of sense. Plus, parking is actually manageable here – something you’ll appreciate if you’ve ever tried to navigate Cologne’s inner city with a rental car.

  We chose this place for a 5-day holiday with my son. Our plans were different during our stay. Upon our request, we received two keys for both of us from a coded box. The entrance is from the garden gate and an independent door from the house. Everything in the place was very clean. The kitchen, room and bathroom are spacious enough and every little detail that would be needed has been considered. There was tea, coffee and drinks, thank you for that. It is in a very calm, quiet and safe neighborhood. You wake up to the sound of birds in a lush garden. It is very close to the Königfrost metro stop number 9, which departs every 10-15 minutes and goes to the city center, approximately 250 meters away. There is a supermarket called ALDI 100 meters away. It was very easy to get our needs from the market on the way back from the city center and then go to the room. We were very pleased, thank you to the host.

  In inner yard, therefore really quiet. A comfortable tram stop nearby and a grocery store. Really clean. Clear check-in instructions, quick answers to questions.
  
  What could be improved: A half basement, therefore not too much of light and you can feel some dampness, but turning heating on and occasionally opening the window for fresh air helps.

  Facilities were good, and access to groceries, dining and tram was good. Host communicated well with clear instruction book and it was really nice to have the Nespresso, water and two Kolsch beer!
  
  What could be improved: It is a partial basement suit (still large windows) so that brings some lack of window view and a bit of musty smell but you get used to that quickly. On the plus it very quiet and easy to black out light for night sleeps.

  Location is just next to airport and in a very comfortable position to reach to Cologne city center with a car. Facility is completely equipped. All you need is available in good condition. Very comfortable for cooking also.
