The thing about staying here is you get that authentic “living in Cologne” vibe without sacrificing convenience. I mean, you’re technically outside the main tourist chaos, but the public transport connections are actually solid – there’s a tram stop within walking distance that’ll get you to the cathedral and all that central stuff in about 20 minutes. What I really appreciated was coming back after long days of sightseeing to find street parking (which, let’s be honest, can be a nightmare in German cities) and neighbors who weren’t stumbling around drunk at 2 AM like you get near the Altstadt.

The apartment itself feels properly cared for – not that sterile hotel chain vibe, but more like staying at a friend’s place who actually has their life together. The 4-star rating makes sense here; everything works the way it should, the wifi doesn’t cut out when you need it most, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. I particularly loved having a proper kitchen because, honestly, eating out every meal gets expensive fast in Cologne, and sometimes you just want to grab some groceries from the local Rewe and cook something simple. The shower pressure was solid too – I know that sounds boring, but you don’t realize how much you miss a decent shower until you’ve had a few disappointing ones on a longer trip.

What really sold me on this place was the owner’s approach to hospitality. Check-in was smooth (they actually responded to messages quickly, which isn’t always a given), and they left just enough local recommendations without overwhelming you with a novel’s worth of suggestions. The 8.9 rating from other guests seems spot-on – high enough that you know people genuinely enjoyed staying here, but not so perfect that you wonder if the reviews are fake.

Flittard itself has this lived-in feel that I found refreshing after hitting all the major tourist spots. There’s a decent bakery around the corner where locals actually go for their morning bread, and in the evenings you’ll see people walking their dogs and kids riding bikes – real neighborhood stuff. If you’re the type who likes to experience a place rather than just tick boxes on a sightseeing list, this works perfectly. You’re close enough to dive into central Cologne whenever you want, but far enough away to decompress and feel like you’re getting a glimpse of how people actually live here. Plus, the value for money is solid – you’re getting more space and amenities than most central hotels would give you for the same price.

  Alles super schön eingerichtet, ziemlich neuwertig und vor allem sauber.
  Die Lage ist wunderschön und ruhig gelegen.Leider kommt man mit Öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel allerdings nicht so gut hin. Mit dem Auto gelangt man allerdings sehr schnell überall hin.

  What could be improved: Es fehlt eine Mikrowelle um Speisen etc. aufzuwärmen da die Küche keinen Backofen hat und man ansonsten nur ein kleines 2er Ceranfeld zu Verfügung hat.
  Und im Badezimmer war es leider sehr kalt.
