Day8 Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Day8 Hotel feels refreshingly different from your typical chain hotel experience. This three-star property in Cologne has this understated, almost boutique-like vibe that immediately puts you at ease. The lobby isn’t trying too hard to impress — it’s clean, modern, and honestly just feels like a place where real people stay, not some sterile business hotel. The staff greets you warmly, and the overall atmosphere suggests a property that genuinely cares about guest comfort.
The Sülz Neighborhood
Here’s what I really appreciate about staying here — you’re in Sülz, which locals know is one of those neighborhoods that feels authentically Cologne without the tourist crowds. The Sülzgürtel location puts you on a main street with actual German life happening around you. There’s a reason couples rate this spot so highly (I mean, 8.5 is pretty impressive) — you can walk to cozy cafés and local spots that you’d never find if you were stuck near the cathedral with all the tour groups. The U-Bahn connections are solid too, so getting into the city center takes maybe 15 minutes when you want that classic Cologne experience. This neighborhood truly captures the essence of local living.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star — nothing fancy, but everything worked perfectly. Clean lines, comfortable bed, and honestly, the shower had better water pressure than some four-star places I’ve been to. What struck me was how quiet it was at night, which isn’t always a given when you’re on a main street. The windows actually block out the street noise pretty effectively, and the air conditioning (crucial during Cologne’s surprisingly warm summers) didn’t sound like a jet engine. The thoughtful design choices make a real difference in your stay.
Breakfast Worth Getting Up For
You know what surprised me? The breakfast actually made me want to get up in the morning. They do both continental and buffet style, and while it’s not going to win any awards, there’s something satisfying about starting your day with proper German bread, decent coffee, and fresh fruit. The breakfast area gets good natural light, and the staff keeps everything well-stocked without hovering around you. I’ve definitely had worse breakfast experiences at places charging twice as much. The quality-to-value ratio here is genuinely impressive.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. The 8.5 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re actually getting — solid fundamentals, a genuinely good location that locals would choose, and staff who seem to care about doing their jobs well. Parking is available if you’re driving, though honestly, you probably won’t need your car much once you’re settled in. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than just passing through a generic hotel experience. For the price point, you’re getting authentic Cologne access without paying tourist premiums.

Reviews of Day8 Hotel
All good, but bit pricey for the size and location – Emb from United Kingdom – August 10, 2025 (8/10)
Clean and well located near a tram and buses
What could be improved: room size. lift was not available during my stayNice hotel and fantastic value! – Charles from Belgium – July 28, 2025 (9/10)
Day 8 was a surprisingly nice hotel. I of course looked at the pictures before booking, but even still we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were updated with modern finishes and a BIG, comfy bed. This place was super high value to me.
What could be improved: The TV had a permanent light on the bottom, which I had to cover with pants so I could sleep. unfortunately, only street parking available, which I got lucky with a spot in front of the building, otherwise this could be a challenge.Great, freshly renovated hotel, with good connection to city centre – Izabella from United Kingdom – July 28, 2025 (10/10)
Modern, clean, great WiFi, big comfy bed
What could be improved: Thin walls, could hear everything what was happening behind the doorsHighly recommended – Liekefett from United States – June 29, 2025 (10/10)
This is a freshly renovated hotel, so everything is new. The owners are incredibly nice.
Calm and cozy – Pltnick from Germany – June 25, 2025 (10/10)
Calm and cozy, the building looks quite new or after good renovation. Easy access to variety of nice restaurants around in the district.
Great stay in a quiet area near stations – Jorge from Dominican Republic – June 20, 2025 (10/10)
It was in a nice location, very quiet and the staff was helpful.
Friendly and comfortable hotel in a nice part of town – Andrew from United Kingdom – June 19, 2025 (9/10)
Friendly staff. Comfortable beds. Layout of twin room – beds in an L shape, separated by wardrobe – was imaginative, giving each person a bit of privacy. Standard (for which read good) German breakfast buffet, though 25% higher price than we paid at an earlier hotel in the same trip for the same selection. Good location in the inner suburbs: half hour by tram to city centre, half hour walk to university, five minute walk to a massive park with woodland walks.
What could be improved: An unnecessarily elegant washstand turned a compact bathroom into a cramped one.Comfortable, stylish and just fabulous – Lindsay from United Kingdom – June 11, 2025 (10/10)
All the facilities were exceptional!! I definitely recommend this hotel for anyone. It was very stylish and comfortable.
What could be improved: Just the stairs we were on the 5th floor and there was no lift, however, as an apology for the stairs the receptionist (who was amazing) said we were gifted a free breakfast in the morning.Best value for money one can get – Maksim from Netherlands – June 2, 2025 (10/10)
Just everything. Great value for money!
Suelz has a brand new hotel – celebrate and enjoy the neighbourhood! – Bill from Australia – May 29, 2025 (7/10)
This new hotel first open three weeks of my 6 night stay. No other local hotel. So great to have a hotel in Suelz! (I have many years exposure to Suelz and this area,) Freshness of a new hotel. Rooms are small, spartan and living tight. Example: a small desk and light, but I thought the desk light was a special one to improve its efficiency. ie small but good. Staff helpful and positive. Can not overstate how wonderful to have a hotel in Suelz. It is a great area with excellent shopping within minutes wall towards city. Light rail access to city/HBF with regular stop only a very short walk away. Same line provides direct train line to Bonn. These factor underline the great value of this hotel. If returning to Cologne,
I would want to stay here – and be in Suelz!. Bill/Sydney-Australia.
What could be improved: Repeat: this is newly built hotel. The land space is small. Much work has been done to make good use of small land site.
