DASKöln Overview
You know what struck me first about DASKöln? Walking up to this place on Hämergasse, you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking – it’s tucked into this historic stretch in Altstadt-Nord that feels more like a local secret than tourist central. But honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Dom, but somehow you’ve escaped all that madness.
The building itself has this interesting thing going on where it’s clearly been renovated with serious attention to detail, but they kept these little quirks that remind you you’re in a centuries-old part of Cologne. The rooms – and I stayed in one facing the inner courtyard, which I’d actually recommend over street-facing because Hämergasse can get a bit lively on weekend nights – have this perfect balance of sleek modern stuff and subtle nods to the area’s history. The bed was honestly one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re drowning in foam, and the shower pressure was (thank god) actually strong enough to wake you up properly. Small thing, but you know how hotel showers can be a total lottery.
What really got me though was how the staff seemed to genuinely know Cologne, not just the obvious tourist spots. When I asked about getting to the brewery district without walking through the main shopping chaos, the guy at reception drew me this little map showing these side streets I never would’ve found otherwise. Plus, they store your luggage without making you feel like you’re imposing – which sounds basic, but after a morning exploring the Roman-Germanic Museum, you really appreciate not having to schlep bags around. The breakfast setup (though I only tried it twice) had this local bread that was definitely from somewhere nearby, not the usual hotel chain stuff. There’s also this weird little detail where the elevator has these old Cologne postcards framed inside – sort of cheesy but somehow it works. The whole place just feels like someone actually thought about what travelers need instead of just copying some five-star template. And with that 9.3 rating, I get it – it’s not trying to be flashy or impress you with marble everything, it’s just really, really good at being a place you want to come back to after spending the day wandering around one of Germany’s oldest cities.
Cologne’s apartments offer spacious accommodations with modern amenities, perfect for families wanting to experience daily life in this historically significant German city.

Everything was absolutely perfect. The location is incredibly central, within walking distance to shopping malls and all major attractions. The room was clean, comfortable, and beautifully designed. Every detail was thoughtfully considered. The staff were genuinely warm, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay. Even before arrival, the communication for check-in was smooth and attentive. Highly recommended – we would definitely come back!
What could be improved: Nothing.Highly recommended accommodation – Emilie from Luxembourg – June 29, 2025 (10/10)
Excellent location in the city center. Clean, spacy and functional accommodation with everything you may need and more. The air conditioning works really well and isn't noisy (highly appreciated when it is hot). The sound proofing is perfect: if you close the windows, you cannot hear anything from the streets around even in case of party outside. Staff is nice, welcoming and helpful in case of need. I highly recommend this accommodation!

The room was very spacious and comfortable with lovely beds and clean room and the staff were very kinda and helpful.
What could be improved: We greatly enjoyed our stay and have no major regrets other than the fact that the lights in the room were slightly confusing but still manageable.Exceptional – Fares from Qatar – June 13, 2025 (10/10)

A convenient and comfortable stay in the center of Cologne—highly recommended for both short and long visits! – Mey from Jordan – June 11, 2025 (10/10)
The location was fantastic—right in the heart of Cologne with easy access to shops, restaurants, and public transport. The room was clean, modern, and comfortable, with all the essentials provided. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout the stay, making check-in and check-out smooth and hassle-free. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, and the building felt secure and well-maintained.
Wonderful – Andrew from United Kingdom – June 10, 2025 (9/10)
Clean, tidy and centrally located. Available at very short notice.
What could be improved: The shower head is not properly installed and water is shooting upwards making water pour into the ceiling lights. Needs fixing properly as this could cause a potential risk of electrocution. An instruction pack about the property would also be helpful.Great stay, highly recommend – Katya from United Kingdom – June 8, 2025 (10/10)
Location is great, staff was very nice and approachable and helpful with some advice on where to go. The flat was very spacious and had everything that you could possibly need for few days. Very clean
What could be improved: I can’t think of anything
