Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to 71 Höninger Weg, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard residential building in Zollstock. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are hiding in plain sight, and City Apartments Cologne really surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying in Zollstock is that you’re getting the real Cologne experience without the tourist chaos. I mean, sure, you’re not stumbling out your front door onto the cathedral steps, but honestly? That 15-minute tram ride into the city center becomes kind of therapeutic after a few days of sightseeing. The U-Bahn stop at Zollstock is literally a three-minute walk away – I timed it because I’m neurotic like that – and suddenly you’ve got the whole city at your fingertips. What I really loved though was coming back to this quiet neighborhood in the evenings. There’s this little Turkish place around the corner that does incredible döner (the locals actually line up for it), and you’ll find a proper German bakery just down Höninger Weg where the smell of fresh pretzels basically becomes your morning alarm clock.

The apartment itself – well, it’s exactly what it says on the tin. No fancy marble lobbies or concierge in a bow tie, just a clean, well-thought-out space that actually feels like someone lives there rather than a sterile hotel room. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you want to grab groceries from the REWE down the street, which honestly saved me a fortune during my week-long stay. Parking was surprisingly easy too – I’d heard horror stories about trying to park in Cologne, but this area’s pretty manageable. The only thing I’d mention is that it can get a bit lively on weekend nights since there are quite a few young families in the building, but nothing that decent earplugs can’t handle. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that awkward hovering around a reception desk wondering if you’re in the right place. You get your keys, you get clear directions, and you’re sorted. With an 8.4 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I can see why – it’s one of those places that just works without trying too hard to impress you.

  Appartement calme avec deux grande chambres. Hôtes très agréables et accueillants. Place à proximité d’un arrêt de tram. Tv et wifi fonctionnant bien, machine a café et grille-pain. Machine à laver et sèche linge sur place.
  
  What could be improved: Appartement situé au quatrième étage , accès par une grande cage d’escalier. Photos ne donnant pas exactement la réalité des pièces. Pas de hotte d’aspiration pour les odeurs de cuisine, le petit plus serait un lave vaisselle.

  Everything is great, clean, there is all you need for shorter or longer stay. Tram line just outside in one minute walk.
  
  What could be improved: Noise in the street. There is a tram line just outside the appartment, so if you sleep with open windows (because it’s hot) probably you are awake at 5 in the morning as everyone starts to go to work. If the windows are closed, so all is good.
