Best Western Plus Hotel Koeln City Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Best Western Plus Hotel Koeln City? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet little street in Ehrenfeld – Innere Kanalstrasse – which honestly sounds more intimidating than it is. I mean, when you first hear “Ehrenfeld,” you might think you’re staying way out in the suburbs, but this neighborhood has completely transformed over the past decade. It’s become this cool, artsy district that locals genuinely love, not just some gentrified tourist trap.
The hotel itself sits in what feels like a perfect sweet spot. You’re literally a 15-minute S-Bahn ride to the cathedral and all that tourist stuff, but you’re also surrounded by these amazing little Turkish bakeries, vintage shops, and bars that don’t close until way too late (speaking from experience here). The building has this modern, clean aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard – sort of understated in a way that feels very German, if that makes sense. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no overselling of amenities or pushy upgrade attempts. The staff actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give real recommendations, not just the usual “visit the cathedral” spiel.
What really sold me on this place was the attention to practical details. The rooms are well-insulated – I barely heard the tram that runs nearby, which was a pleasant surprise since European hotels can be hit-or-miss with noise control. The beds are firm (thank god), and there’s actually enough outlets near the bed for your phone and whatever else you’re charging. Small thing, but you’d be amazed how many 4-star places mess this up. The breakfast spread was solid too – proper German breads, decent coffee, and they don’t rush you out even if you stumble down at 9:30 AM looking like you explored Ehrenfeld’s nightlife a bit too enthusiastically. Parking is available but honestly, you won’t need a car much from here – the public transport connections are excellent, and half the fun is just wandering around the neighborhood anyway. That 8.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.

Reviews of Best Western Plus Hotel Koeln City
Very Good – Sophia from Germany – July 10, 2025 (8/10)
I really enjoyed the bed, though it was a twin bed, but it was very comfortable, the hotel was clean and spacey rooms.
Wonderful – Hizk from Israel – June 25, 2025 (9/10)
Comfortable, clean, overall friendly staff. Free printer in lobby was really helpful. Good food in restaurant.
What could be improved: Shower stream low and faucet loose.
Also, for everything in the bar you have to pay on the spot instead of charging the room. If you need the receipt there will be too many of them.Wonderful – Tomas from Lithuania – June 21, 2025 (9/10)
The room has everything you need and more.
What could be improved: The location is a bit remote. Minor inconveniences: The elevator could be heard from my room and the bathroom fan was loud which is because it can't be controlled. Luckily, I slept through it without much trouble.Good hotel, but with Air B&B housekeeping standard – Jonathan from Australia – June 8, 2025 (7/10)
Breakfast was Great! The room is comfortable and the bathtub is very good
What could be improved: The housekeeping is terrible, it felt more like Air B&B. I would expect the house keepers to replenish the shower gels, shampoo, etc everyday. One should not expect to have to book such things every single time in advance..
Even then, no one could tell us how to book housekeeping service, we got conflicting information and none worked.
Your parking rate is too high. We found street parking for only €30 for a week, as opposed to your €24 per day.
Restaurant staff generally not friendly, with only a few exceptions.Very Good – Syster from Germany – June 3, 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: At night, it was a bit loud but that’s because of the other visitors and not because of the hotel
Convenient hotel to stay – Dubai from United Arab Emirates – April 13, 2025 (7/10)
Clean room, Very GERMAN! Good Wifi, Breakfast is German Style, Sausage and Eggs and cutlet.
What could be improved: I was quite surprised and disappointed that room service did not happen at all on my second day. The only thing done was removing the towel from the floor — no cleaning, no bed arrangement, nothing else.
I had also requested early check-in when I arrived around 8:30–9:00 AM, but was told it wasn’t possible, so I had to wait until the afternoon, which was inconvenient after a long journey.
To top it off, they didn’t accept cash, especially USD, which was unexpected and a hassle.Everything was nice, except for the wifi. – Lawrence from Netherlands – March 7, 2025 (8/10)
room, breakfast, location, staff, taxi services
What could be improved: wifi was useless, i basically had no internet there because the phone signal was also badGood business hotel – Salim from Germany – January 13, 2025 (9/10)
Clean, modern business hotel
Nice, cosy but not excellent – Claudia from Italy – January 6, 2025 (7/10)
Very clean
What could be improved: Very basic and too expensive for what we paidAbsolutely recommended – Stastini from Czech Republic – October 25, 2024 (9/10)
Nice, clean and well equipped room. Tasty breakfast (huge variation of food). Self check-in. Good location (about 3 km to the downtown). Kind and friendly staff. Parking place (outside and also in garage)
What could be improved: Parking for 24€/day
