I stayed in one of the units facing the street, and while you’ll hear some traffic (it’s a city, after all), the windows are decent enough that it’s not intrusive. What I really appreciated was how they’ve kept some of the original architectural details while making everything functional for actual living. The kitchenettes are small but workable – I managed to make coffee and heat up pastries from the Turkish bakery down the block without any issues. Speaking of which, that stretch of Eigelstein has some incredible food options that most tourists completely miss because they’re busy hunting down bratwurst in the Altstadt.

Here’s the thing about this location that you won’t realize until you’re actually walking around – you’re maybe a 15-minute stroll to the Dom, but you’re also right in the heart of one of Cologne’s more interesting neighborhoods. The Eigelstein gate (one of the old medieval city gates) is literally around the corner, and there’s this whole scene of local bars and cafés that actually stay open past tourist hours. Parking can be a bit of a pain – street parking is hit or miss, and the nearest garage is a few blocks away – but honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need a car much. The U-Bahn connections are really convenient from here.

I’d say this place works best if you’re the type of traveler who wants to feel like you’re actually staying somewhere rather than just sleeping between museum visits. The staff was helpful without being overly formal, check-in was straightforward, and they clearly know their neighborhood well enough to point you toward the good stuff. It’s not luxury by any stretch – this is a solid 3-star setup that delivers on what it promises. But if you want to wake up and grab coffee from a place where locals actually go, then wander over to see the cathedral when you feel like it, this spot hits that sweet spot between authentic and convenient.

  What could be improved: We were on the fourth floor. 85 steep stairs, no lift. It nearly killed me. With my cases it took fifteen minutes to get to the top.

  Nice apartment, good value for money, clean. Comfortable mattress. Working kitchenette. Towels included. Located on a street with lots of cafés and other eateries. Good soundproofing so you can’t hear much from the street below. Good heating system.
  
  What could be improved: There were no toiletries which I thought would have been included in the apartment. The hot water in the shower does not last long – we stayed as a couple and it would be lucky if one of us had an all warm shower, otherwise it was freezing cold. The pillows are oddly shaped and lack cushioning which made my partner have uncomfortable night sleeps. The apartment is around a 15 minute walk to the main attractions, including the main train station, and further for any other sights so bring comfy shoes. Also, it is located above a chinese so the corridor smells from their kitchen, but the smell did not encroach on our room.

  What could be improved: A more specific mention about the number of stairs one needs to climb to get into the apartment would be nice. We were staying at the 4th floor and we only had a backpack with us so it was doable. If there was a luggage with us though honestly I'd cancel the booking. Dragging a suitcase all the way up and down those stairs would have been not only exhausting but also dangerous.

  Das Appartement war sehr schön und geschmackvoll eingerichtet.

  Die Treppen waren ausgetreten und dadurch schlecht zu begehen.
