The Wi-Fi actually works (which, you know, isn’t always a given), and the beds are proper comfortable, not those rock-hard mattresses some European hotels seem to love. I will say the bathroom in my room was a bit compact, but it had good water pressure, which matters more than size when you’re trying to wash off a day of sightseeing.

The staff genuinely seem to care about making your stay work – they’re not just going through the motions. When I needed directions to find a decent grocery store nearby, the guy at reception actually drew me a little map and told me which U-Bahn connection would get me back into the city center fastest. Speaking of which, you’ll want to get familiar with the local transit because while there’s parking available, navigating Cologne’s city center by car is sort of a nightmare. The area around the hotel is definitely residential – tree-lined streets, the occasional dog walker, that kind of vibe. There’s a decent bakery about a five-minute walk away that opens early, which saved me more than once when I wanted coffee before heading out for the day. Look, this place isn’t going to wow you with marble lobbies or rooftop bars, but it does exactly what a good 3-star hotel should do – gives you a clean, comfortable base while you explore one of Germany’s most interesting cities, without charging you an arm and a leg for the privilege.

  Very comfortable room with water and tea, which was handy considering the time I got there. I arrived late, around 22:40, and they were closed (as stated from their checkin time), but there was an envelope with my name and instructions on how to access my room. Loved the experience. The room is very comfortable, I wish I was there longer.

  Cute, quirky place and the room was very quiet. Bed was comfortable. Shower was a little cramped but no big deal. Good value for the price. The staff was very accommodating when we realized we came down late for breakfast.
