Apartment Köln Weidenpesch Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Apartment Köln Weidenpesch when I first pulled up to Neusser Straße – I mean, it’s not exactly the postcard part of Cologne that tourists usually write home about. But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense German apartment block feel, and while it won’t win any architecture awards, there’s something refreshingly authentic about staying somewhere that feels more like a neighborhood than a tourist trap. The check-in was straightforward (thank god, because my German is terrible), and I actually appreciated that they didn’t try to oversell me on city tours or restaurant recommendations – sometimes you just want to figure things out yourself.
What really won me over was how genuinely local this area feels. Weidenpesch isn’t trying to be trendy or Instagram-perfect, it’s just… real Cologne life happening around you. There’s a solid bakery about two blocks down that locals actually use – I could smell fresh bread every morning around 7 AM, which honestly became my unofficial alarm clock. The S-Bahn connection is better than you’d expect for being a bit outside the center, and I found myself appreciating the 15-minute ride into the Altstadt because it gave me time to decompress between tourist mode and actually living somewhere for a few days. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, which anyone who’s driven in German cities knows is basically a minor miracle. The apartment itself was clean and functional – not fancy, but everything worked properly, and the Wi-Fi was solid enough for video calls back home.
I’ll be honest, this isn’t the place if you want to stumble out your front door directly into cathedral squares and Christmas markets. But if you’re the type of traveler who likes discovering how a city actually works – where people buy groceries, what the morning commute looks like, how neighborhoods have their own rhythm – then Apartment Köln Weidenpesch hits that sweet spot. The value is excellent for what you get, especially considering Cologne’s hotel prices can be absolutely brutal during trade fair season. I ended up extending my stay an extra night because, well, it just felt comfortable in a way that fancy hotels sometimes don’t. It’s the kind of place where you can actually picture living temporarily rather than just passing through, and that’s rarer than you might think.

Reviews of Apartment Köln Weidenpesch
An decent place to stay for our work trip to FIBO – Heather from Sweden – April 12, 2025 (6/10)
The location is farther from the city centre, but there is a tram stop right outside. There is also a big grocery store directly across the road and several restaurants and pubs close by.
What could be improved: The wooden floor is old and needs to be repaired. The screws were sticking up and we caught our foot on them several times. The wooden slats are breaking as well.Wonderful – Mohammed from United Kingdom – December 29, 2024 (7/10)
The property's location was excellent, being very near a supermarket and tram stop, with the city center only a 20-minute ride away.
What could be improved: Nothing majorDisappointing – Connor from United Kingdom – July 19, 2024 (4/10)
What could be improved: No curtains, uneven floorboards, nails on floorboards
A big thank you to the staff who made us feel welcome – Gary from Switzerland – July 12, 2024 (10/10)
The staff, the location (close to the place we were supposed to be) and shops and public transport are 1 min away.
What could be improved: Nothing. It was exactly what we needed.Great location, definitely recommend if you don't want to stay City centre. – Helen from Ireland – December 4, 2023 (8/10)
The apartment was lovely and clean, warm, and the beds ŵere comfortable. The shower is hot and powerful.
Kitchen is moderately equipped, with microwave, cooker, fridge, dishwasher.
Good location, with a good sized supermarket across the street and a tram stop very close by. Apartment is located towards the rear of the building so there is not too much noise from the tram or cars.
What could be improved: Although the heat was on all day there is a draught under the door which was unpleasant, we put a duvet across to block it and that helped but perhaps the owners would think about putting in some kind of draught excluder.
There is a saucepan with a broken handle in the kitchen which needs replacing.Very Poor – Tamara from Slovenia – August 9, 2023 (2/10)
Supermarket and train station were close.
Giving it 2 as we had warm water and due to closeness of store and train.
What could be improved: Read other reviews, please, especially newest ones, as things keep repeating.
I initially didn't believe it, as when we booked it, this had 8.4 review and I am not sure if that initial grade was truthful, as what we got was not what we saw on pics and what we got.
As you climb, stairs have red mouldy carpet on them.
Mould is on some parts of walls and smell of it is present, furniture is not as new as it looks on pictures, floor is bending when you walk over it, kitchen is not clean, doors dont close well, dishes were greasy, mcdonalds ketchup bag in bed (???) from previous tenants, pillows falling apart, etc. And I feel bad for writing it all down, as I want to believe that this was not done on purpose…
In offer, they combined pictures of 2 apartments and you don't really know what you are buying/which one you get.
Not sure if they can speak English, but they do answer WhatsApp fast with basic sentences, which was nice.
They are renovating the lower floor so I hope they offer proper stays in the future.
If we paid the full price (we got it discounted) it would be totally not ok.Comfortable and clean . Complete . Just a team ride away from the city center makes it very convenient . – Keisha from Philippines – July 29, 2023 (8/10)
The place fits 6-7 people . Complete with beddings , towels , pits, pans, glasses, plates and utensils. Kitchen complete . Just need washing machine & dryer, though there is a laundromat 3 tram stations away. Quite clean. Water is strong , hot water available . Very near the tram that takes you to the city center. Good for groups and family.
Only downside is if there is a neighbor in the next unit who is noisy (like we had) , then it’s hard to sleep.
What could be improved: Check out was too early – 10am. Would’ve been good to checkout at 12nn.Good – Melanie from United Kingdom – July 8, 2023 (7/10)
The location was good and the apartment was clean
What could be improved: The furniture and bedding was poor qualityVery Good – Daren from United Kingdom – April 25, 2023 (8/10)
The second appartment was very nice, a little crammed but was good for our stay.
It had the good kitchen equipment.
Plenty of hot water.
The host was very pleasant.
What could be improved: The heating did not work in appartment 1 for the first two nights, then fixed.
The shower in appartment 1 was not very good, the shower head kept falling down.
Appartment 2 could have done with another shower.Good – Francisca from Portugal – December 9, 2022 (7/10)
The apartment is well located, it is not in the city center, but it is right next to public transport. It has the essentials. Rooms are small, but good relation quality and price.
What could be improved: We had a problem with the heating, we communicated it to the host, who was always available and the problem was solved.
